Except there were only 2, he didn't list vanilla sky (hands down the worst), and most people like the mission impossibles.
Maybe he liked the mummy and he was listing the good ones. It was just kind of all over the place.

i have a slightly off topic question...
i only have a passing familiarity with reacher. i saw both movies and enjoyed this series. i've never read the books, so i contend that some of my answers may come from the books...
is reacher a mary sue? or whatever the male version of that is called. i feel like he should be, at least how he comes across in the show... just naturally gifted, strong, muscular, intelligent and insightful... like, he picks up on the animal feed thing WAY early and everyone dismisses it out of hand like, it's just feed. everyone here has animal feed. but reacher knows it's more than that even though he probably shouldn't have... he doesn't work out, eats a ton of unhealthy food, but always looks like a brick superhero.
don't get me wrong, i'm not disparaging the character, i don't think... just... what's the difference between when a man has all these natural gifts and a when a woman has all these natural gifts... my first instinct is to point out THE marysue, Rey. for me, rey didn't work because the writing was just awful and all over the place but always just landed on "because the force."
i can only assume that lee child is streets ahead of the hacks at disney, but is there something specific that makes reacher NOT a marysue?

He's been a beast since a little kid and his brother protected him but joining military being ops/also learned profiling for years. I don't think you know what a Mary sue is.
If Reacher was a garbage man and all the sudden became a crazy badass out of nowhere and a professional tracker/marksman with no training then he's a Mary Sue

i mean, i know what a mary sue is. the show points out on several occasions that as a kid he was bigger and stronger than any other kid his age. and i always got the impression that he was good at his job because of who he is, not because the job taught him how to be a badass.
again, i didn't read the books so if it's made clearer that he's not just automatically amazing at everything, then that answers the question. but the show doesn't demonstrate that, which is fine. like i said, i enjoyed the show. it was just an interesting thought i had and wondered if the books presented that differently

Jack Reacher is male justice porn fantasy about always being able to do the right thing, kicking everyone's ass along the way while ignoring inconvenient rules and expectations, and getting the girl. I wouldn't say he's a Marty/Gary Sue, but the plots definitely stick to the character's wheelhouse. Don't overthink it.
The Tom Cruise movies should be ignored.

They actually address it at least two or three times in flashbacks. His mom mentions he is a strong as 3 kids/men or something to that effect.

naturally gifted doesn't equal mary sue. if they put in the work, they are just heroic. the super man. I would agree a bit of window dressing to suggest he does actually work out, and eat well to stay perfectly fit would have helped.

Some of that could be offset with the extreme violence that seems to follow him. He's definitely at super-man level but not Gary Stu. Even without the ridiculous pool fight, he did have some trouble with the hired professional in that one episode. It was far better than utter ridiculousness of Wick and it's imitators on that front.
