I was going to say this isn't over just because Pao is gone. The next CEO's job to maximize profit and the userbase still won't like that. Reddit is RIP unless some trillionaire buys it and says do what you want.

If you take a look around there are plenty of threads on reddit about how nothing is over with the pao gone. None of the stupid shit put in place while she was CEO is being reverted. You still need 3rd party apps to get any kind of decent functionality as a user let alone a mod, FPH is still gone and likely to stay that way, the AMA chick isn't back, and they are still pushing for the safe space bullshit. Pao said that reddit wasn't a free speech platform, and unless they come out and refute that I don't see a long term recovery. Plus they suck ass with their attempts to move towards monetization.

Exactly. They've brought Duffman back to appease the mob but in a few months when this is all forgotten they'll bring in some Bobby Kotick clone andsqueeze.
You think getting rid of Pao has stopped the gentrification of Reddit? Haha, oh dear.

Who said that? Nobody said that. Hell we have explicitly said the opposite. Why do you have fake arguments with people? We are smarter than you.

Trying to monetize on the user-facing side is a death sentence and they deserve to relive Digg's ending if they hire anyone who thinks that.

They need to monetize on the back end, selling trend dynamics, analytics and consumer insight---it's the same model that Twitter, yelp and increasingly Google has been using. It's more scalable than consumer-facing advertising because adblock puts a massive cockblock on that anyway.

In fact, if they they wanted to build Reddit to be a fat acquisition target, they would pretty much HAVE to transition to a pure back-end revenue model. Why would conde-nast or time-warner or Disney buy reddit for a few billion if it's just another shitty Digg-bound affiliate advertising play? Whereas a pure viral-generating community with a rich big-data ecosystem is exactly what those content producers have been shopping for over the years.

yishan comments on Kn0thing says he was responsible for the change in AMAs (i.e. he got Victoria fired). Is there any evidence that Ellen Pao caused the alleged firing of Victoria?
I'm glad redditors have started to piece together all of this. Here's the only thing you're missing:
It travels upstream, except when it comes from the CEO's boss. Alexis wasn't some employee reporting to Pao, he was the Executive Chairman of the Board, i.e. Pao's boss. He had different ideas for AMAs, he didn't like Victoria's role, and decided to fire her. Pao wasn't able to do anything about it. In this case it shouldn't have traveled upstream to her, it came from above her. Then when the hate-train started up against Pao, Alexis should have been out front and center saying very clearly "Ellen Pao did not make this decision, I did." Instead, he just sat back and let her take the heat. That's a stunning lack of leadership and an incredibly shitty thing to do.

I actually asked that he be on the board when I joined; I used to respect Alexis Ohanian. After this, not quite so much.

Why/how would a board member fire someone? This is just blame shifting. Ellen Pao has never demonstrated ANY leadership at Reddit, if this board member really DID fire Victoria Taylor, it's clear she wasn't even really running the company.
