I dont understand the "free speech" argument. It is a privately owned and moderated outlet, how does "free speech" come in to play with that. It just seems like people think its a god given right to post garbage on a message board, as apposed to it actually being a social construct that was created and governed by a private party. I dont see anywhere in the bill of rights that states its a persons god given right to be able to post unregulated bullshit on a privately owned message board.

You don't get it because you completely misunderstand it. No one is arguing its illegal. They're saying if reddit is going to completely change and go back on what they've stood for, then people aren't going to use it any more.

It would be like if draegan suddenly banned discussion of video games here. Most people would leave and call him a faggot and you'd be over in the corner going "but guys the constitution lol".

Free speech and the first amendment aren't the same thing. One is a social/philosophical position, the latter is a codified protection in the U.S. The point is, the company was literally founded by them promising over and over they would adhere to free speech while Digg was going down.

I kind of agree with that strategy. Keeping Pao as the CEO, and letting the bad forums exist, just not publicized/promoted, could have been a good long term strategy. They completely fed the pooch on implementing it, as the owners had another agendas.

Just days after the new CEO says real users should never get shadowbanned a mod of r/neofag (a sub dedicated to making fun of neogaf) gets shadowbanned for asking to have is sub unbanned. This was one of the subs purged during the great FPH wipeout.

It may be in the interest of corporations to maintain government as a neutral arbiter or at least as faux neutral well after government's capacity to crush corporations arrives solely for the purpose of marketing to the public. Company, a novel by Max Barry, is a humorous take on that situation that poses government against competing global rewards programs. A lot of his writing revolves around the issue of corporate power, but always from the angle of funny. Sadly only one of them, Syrup, has made it to the big screen.

They probably would have still done alright. There's a niche for something that is massive, hosts local communites, and exists somewhere between 4chan and facebook.

Their stated position on threading is still a bigger negative to me than their sudden realization that dollars. I might be tempted to use reddit if it wasn't garbage. Even if they threatened to censor every word I used without a french root.
