I wonder if the Cathedral will end up like the pyramids in the future... soo many blocks, how could humans have built such a thing!?
Wasn't how many blocks were in the pyramids that make them a wonder, bro... it was the fact of how they were quarried, how precisely they fit together, how far they had to travel to get to the sites, how massive they were, how each block is almost the EXACT same size on each run, how they were even moved such a long distance and then set... it is a marvel that we would have trouble replicating even with our modern technology.

I doubt that. One of the hardest parts is finding a quarry with enough stone, the labor intensive stuff would be very easy these days. Quarries have very good & precise cutting technology. Hauling the 3ton blocks is very easy with trucks. Trucks can haul 15-24 tons depending on the truck. Could haul easily any distance, just takes Fuel and Time. Assembling the pyramid would likely be done with cranes for precise placement of the blocks. Stuff like this is done every day, just not in the shape of a pyramid.

Edit: And I'm not saying building it today would be all easy, just that the labor stuff you mention wouldn't nearly be an issue. If we wanted to replicate it, it can be done. The hardest part would actually be the assembly since cranes can't reach far enough to do it all. There would need to be multiple methods involved.

On topic: Does the 11million blocks include the empty spaces too? I was wondering how copying my tunnel would work, technically you are copying empty space and putting it underground somewhere. I imagine it does. The Cathedral is quite large but I imagine ~90% of it is the empty space inside.

You are right. For some reason I remember watching a discovery channel show on it and that was the conclusion of the experts on the show. I went and did some more reading after reading what you said and found this:

"While the pyramid was originally built by 4,000 workers over the course of 20 years using strength, sleds and ropes, building the pyramid today using stone-carrying vehicles, cranes and helicopters would probably take 1,500 to 2,000 workers around five years, and it would cost on the order of $5 billion, Houdin said, based on manpower and cost of constructing the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River during the Great Depression. The dam contains a volume of concrete roughly equal to the stone in the pyramid."

They have also discovered that slaves didn't build the pyramids as has almost always been thought, but skilled crafts men did it and 2000 of them were even buried near the pyramids and were given a respectful burial so there is no way they could have been slaves.

Wasn't that respectful burial partly guilt because the Pharaoh had them all killed so the secrets of the inner construction would stay secret?

I've read that conjecture before, why it took so long for some of them to be looted etc.

Edit: VVV I meant the craftsmen, allegedly they were often killed once the projects were completed. I guess a bit like the slaves being buried with their Pharaoh.

Nah if a Pharaoh wanted to kill a slave there was no guilt involved.. slaves were less than the dirt on the bottom of their feet.

Here are some pics from my base in the new Direwolf pack. Been focusing on other things, like all the manual farms, instead of machines this time... still not as much fun as machines to me but I wanted to try it all anyway just to see hehe

This is my iron tank I built early on before I decided to do a lot of farming. It's a 5X5X8 and as you can see it holds 3200 buckets. It will hold my lava.
rrr_img_37526.jpg

This is the front of my house. See no cobble stone! hehe The trees are called magical trees and I liked the way they looked so I ringed the inner circle of my complex in them.
rrr_img_37527.jpg

In the center is my cactus and 2 reed farms. To the top right is my oak tree farm, I have 48 of them, right behind my nether portal is my rubber tree farm, I have 64 of them, and to the top left is my cherry tree farm, I have 125 of them, and the furthest you can see in the back is my pine tree farm, I have 8 of them. I manually harvest everything here atm.
rrr_img_37528.jpg

This is my wheat farm and cattle farm. You can also see that around my whole house there are berry bushes. I have every berry bush in the game growing around the base of my house. hehe
rrr_img_37529.jpg

These next 2 pics are of my blaze farm. On the 2nd pic you can see my water hole for jumping into when they light my ass on fire lol
rrr_img_37530.jpg

rrr_img_37531.jpg

After the last 2 starts and trying different things again, like building a big home base and working on things besides machines, I remember why I didn't do them any more... I find it boring as hell lol So when Direwolf's 1.6 pack gets released I am starting with machines and going to do the other stuff just when I need to.

Just hope Direwolf puts in MFR since he has finally stopped ignoring it due to its origins. It's an amazing amalgamation of tools and machines to make farming fantastically useful along with something that easily replaces soul shards for mob farming. Add in conveyor belts, liquid meat, biofuel reactors and now rednet to replace the pretty much dead redpower and you are laughing.

Spoiler for personal pack chitchat
Once everything is converted I'll probably run a small pack something along the lines of

Minefactory Reloaded **
Thermal Expansion **
Twilight Forest
Bibliocraft (amazing display type mod)
Railcraft (just for the tanks until *anyone* does better as the modder is a monumental arsehole)
Buildcraft **
Treecapitator
Iron Chests
Modular Powersuits **

and that would probably be it, although I do like the TF2 Sentry mod for base defences. ICBM is a little bit of an overkill
tongue.png
Unfortunately the ones marked ** are still not ported and might be a while yet. Then I might throw in the Ruins mod for some random world buildings and possibly better dungeons to have some fun shit to do underground as I hate the Nether.

As usual, my project is going to require an assload of obsidian. If anyone has some, whether from reward chests or otherwise, that they aren't going to be using, I'd happily trade for it. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of value that I can offer (I have a whole 5 diamonds to my name besides the 3 I used to make my pick), but if there's something you need that I can gather, grow, etc. please let me know. I know a lot of people don't like to use it, and hopefully a decent amount is making its way into the world via the chests, so if it is just going to rot in a chest I'd like to trade something for it if possible. Thanks.

I have a few stacks you can have! I don't like using it but get it from bonus chests.

And yeah, that 11mill figure includes the air. I think the total number of real blocks is prob close to 500,000.

Pretty sure the way it works is that Mcfly can do a /copy in a cube between two locations. He has a special tool he can use to mark the origin block and the "end" block. Anything in the space in between gets copied. Air blocks included.

Finally got my lava production set up. The items from Extra Utilities makes setting it up so much easier! Only downside is I couldn't keep it from bugging out using just 2 ender chests so I used 4, 1 set to send and receive full lava cans to be empty into my tank in the overworld and the other 2 to send and receive the empty ones to be filled in the nether, but I am sure that was just me derping and not the pipes... going to play with it some more to see if I can learn it some more.

And here are some pics, of course *grins*

My lava tank is already 1/2 full! I am going to have to build some stuff quickly to use all this red glowy goodness... hehe
rrr_img_37543.jpg

Got 5 magmatics going, atm. Those blocks on top of them that are connected to the pipes are the new extra utilities blocks that transmit power into those pipes... and those pipes also pump lava at the same time they are taking energy from the engines!! Talking about awesome!
rrr_img_37544.jpg

That is the liquid transposer that takes the full lava cans from the nether and pours them into my tank. And those are my 2 ender tanks. White sends full lava cans black sends the empty ones back.
rrr_img_37545.jpg

This is what it looks like on the nether side. I have a pump with 4 redstone engines powering it. In the back ground and on the next pic you can see the magmatic that is powering the liquid transposer. The pump pumps lava into the engine which runs it which in turn runs the transposer... a perpetual system.
smile.png
And yes I have "/gamerule mobGriefing false" set so that's why I have glass walls here hehe.
rrr_img_37546.jpg

Just the reverse side of the nether setup.
rrr_img_37547.jpg

If you haven't messed with the Extra Utilities yet I highly recommend it. Here is the 2 episode mod spotlight Direwolf did on it.Part 1andPart 2Definitely check out the mod. Well worth the effort for sure.

Wouldn't it be easier to just use liquid tesseracts to transfer lava from the nether to your home base? No cans involved...

Yeah but Extra Utilities is a brand new mod and I wanted to try it out.
smile.png
And those pipes are beyond cheap, 6 stone slabs, 2 glass, and 1 redstone gets you 32 pipes, but it did cost me a lot of ender pearls for the nodes. hehe

There's no way, my tree is going to be about 3/4 of that when its done and I have a hard time thinking there is almost as much material in that as the church.

I hope to get back to my tree soon...just gotta work though a few issues I'm having in RL.

I like cam's mod stories :) he knows far more about these mods than I do. I still suck horribly at ftb. My only endgame has been making an advanced diamond drill with gregtech
I just started a modded MC thread so we could keep this one cleaning for McFly's server stuff. I'll post more SSes in it and talk more about the mods since that is exactly what that theread is for. :)
