Yeah, linemen are almost never worth saving, with a few exceptions.
- I'd save my kicker if I had no one else close to level.
- They're +1 str
- or, they have 2 or the following skills - Block, Wrestle, Fend, Dodge, Sidestep
This is doubly true with how expensive DE positionals are. 110k for a Witch Elf hurts the pocketbook very much so, you'd hate to be without one or a 100k blitzer because you decided it was a good idea to dump 70k on a lineman that they'll give you for free every game and functions just as well in almost any task you should be using him for. In your scenario, I would have used the apoth on whichever blitzer got injured first. Dead linemen? Np, get a rental next game. Agi 3 lineman? Np, he takes a punch just as well as he did last week. Toss him on the line and he'll work it until he dies (again).
I said this to Moon in IRC too, but I should say it here...if you're having trouble with injuries, don't get too worked up about replacing every player with a -stat, you'll go broke doing that and never get outta the hole. If you're taking a lot of injuries per game because your team is somewhat fragile, use the loners, use the apoth for your positionals, and then save up some cash, roll with the MNG's and don't fire anyone that isn't completely crippled for their job so that you can try to get a bench. A 14 player team in a league is going to outperform an 11 player team every time, just because there's a pretty good chance they're gonna walk into the second half with 11 on the field. Once the injuries start coming, it gets progressively harder to defend against them, and you really want that reset button at halftime to get you back to parity. An agi 3 lineman still does his job on the line great. A -AV lineman fouls positionals just as well as anyone else. Your niggled thrower shouldn't be getting hit if you're protecting him anyway. A lot of injuries can really be worked around if you think about them and the other ways you can put those guys to use. Once you start getting a bit of a bankroll, that's when you can say "Yeah, I should replace this guy now."
On my teams, after I have 12 players, I don't buy anything else unless it would leave me with more cash than I need to buy my most expensive positional if he died next game. With elves, this number might be 13, and with stunties it might be 14, but I think it's a good rule.
