I got massively lucky this game, this is the very last turn on my way to score, ZProtoss had no one left on the field after I did a cheap foul on his RO just to see what would happen with no players left on the field. I get the feeling Nuffle won't side with me next time after this match, I think I burned all his good will and still only managed a tie, so fear not WhatsAmmataU. ZP was nice enough to post the replay, at least when I get demoted a division I can watch it to relive my glory days Al Bundy style.

Watched this game live... pretty nasty, especially since ZP used his apo early to save a gunner... that still ended up with -agi. Could have still one it too if his gunner had managed a dodge roll turn 15 :p

Lol, this league is getting brutal.

In other news, I may have to make an adjustment to the promotion/relegation system for season 2, and here's why...

Right now we have a full crew of 32 in the league, and 1 app currently waiting in the wings (Disdain). I've already said multiple times that everyone who wants to play in S2 will get a chance to, and I restructured the league in order to allow it, making each division a separate league so that we can use D1 coaches to fill the void in D4 playing stunty teams like we started doing at the begin of Season 1 when we were a couple men short.

The problem lies in the fact that we can't have an odd number of teams in each division -- the game doesn't calculate bye weeks properly, and some people end up playing 9 games, some end up playing 6 or 7 and getting multiple bye weeks. This means that each division is going to need to move from 8 players to 10 in order to absorb the extra players that will be coming in for S2 (assuming we get no drops, and I haven't heard anything in that regard from anyone yet.) Currently, Braen has been talking in IRC about picking it up, a_skeleton_03 bought it, MagicNumbers is already complaining his schoolwork will suffer as a result of it, so we're probably going to have a few new teams to beat on.

So, with that being said, making each division 10 ruins the relegation bit. If I make each division 10, I can't be dropping people out of it. I will still do promotions, but I can't do the straight swap out top 2/bottom 2 like the plan was. May be good, may be bad, depending on how you're looking at it. I've heard a couple people express the fact that they may have overestimated their abilities and are in the wrong division, but the flip side is that no one will drop if they have a rough start.

So unless I'm missing something, the only way to go from 8 man divisions to 10 in my mind, is to leave D1 as it is, and bring the top 2 guys from D2 up. Then leave D2 as is, bring the top 4 guys from D3 up. Then leave D3 as is, bring up the top 6 from D4, and then fill in all the newcomers into D4, and use filler stunty/vampire teams from D1 coaches to round out D4. Regardless of what anyone thinks about their current ability, everyone in this league has more experience playing the game than anyone who picked up the game last week, that's just a fact.

If anyone has any other ideas/concerns/etc, about this plan, feel free to air them and we'll address them. This plan should work fine assuming we do not end up with more than 40 guys for Season 3 (which I think is unlikely, but then again, I was surprised we got 30 for Season 1, so who knows). At that point, we'll do the appropriate promotion/relegation system for balancing out divisions.

I don't care where you put me! I will still have fun and I will still truck onwards with my big meaty mens, losing every game but taking solace in the games that end in an utter blood bath every once in a while. I look forward to the new blood! Also, I think Adam12's roomie might be dropping, there were talks of it in IRC lastnight, something about rage, rage from one 0 SSP Blitzer dying. ZProtoss is a saint.

Also, I wake up this morning to see a Blood Bowl 2 teaser post on my FB? Da fuq?

Any recommendations to help prevent disconnections between players? Restless and I have tried two different open league games now and both ended up with a disconnect. Annoying as shit because it's not like our game was so spectacular a loss on either side that we would purposefully disconnect, but the Cyanide servers don't seem to like us.

Has Cyanide announced any plans for adding a feature to allow you to reconnect to games? I know they just put in spectating recently which was a great addition but I'm not sure how many more updates they plan (if any). Otherwise I'm looking at FUMBBL as an alternative since you can rejoin games, but the league interface on the website is pretty convoluted.

Not to point blame, but I've played a couple games with Restless and both of them hadmuchmore lag than the games I've played with anyone else. It might be a problem on his end, perhaps where he's located or something.

Yeah, last time I played him was pretty laggy too. I dunno where he is, but maybe he's downloading a shitload of pr0n or something. It's very probable that it's a router or connection issue or something.

Cyanide doesn't have anything to do with the connection during a game, it's simply a lobby. Games are all done as a direct connection, so if there's a problem with the game being disconnected, it's because there's a problem with one of you 2, not the server, because there is no server.

I played Restless a bunch in the open league and rarely had huge lag issues, though they were there. I have a fairly beefy connection and am on the west coast. Not sure where he is at, but I never had an issue completing games when playing him. I know steam tends to do shit in the background and if his bandwidth is not great that could be one reason.

I have had steam start to update games as soon as my BB match started and choked by connection, so that's a real possibility.

Also, your plan sounds good Cutlery, things will work themselves out over the next couple seasons anyway.

How much interest is there in watching Gav and I play later this week? Top 2 teams of D1.

We're both free all day long more or less, but if a lot of you guys want to spectate that one, we can schedule it for primetime thurs/fri/sat or something.

I'd rather add a 5th division if we have 38-40 teams. If we have 32-36, just add any extra teams to D4 (and D3 if necessary). It gives them a couple extra games, but they're either new or presumably not as experienced, so I don't see a problem with them getting more chances at SPP.

5th division is also possible, 8 teams a piece.

It keeps the seasons to 7 games each, and promotion/relegation would work the same. It is, however, a much longer climb to the top.

Alright, I like that idea. That's why I keep you around.

Okay, new topic -- do we want 4 divisions of 10 (so 9 game season) or 5 divisions of 8 (keep the promotion/relegation system, and have the noobs get an easier start to the game)?

Not necessarily. There are a couple different ways we can do it with 5 divisions. If people are worried about the road to the top, we can make it either a tree or a tier system. What I mean by tree is, D1 stays at top. Then D2 and D3 feed into it (we can either demote 4 from D1 or only promote the top teams from D2 and D3...or we could have a 1-game playoff for the promotion...whatever, details can be worked out there). D4 feeds into D2 and D5 feeds into D3. We could also split up the D4/D5 teams, where the top D4 team goes to D2 and the 2nd goes to D3...you get the drift.

That would potentially shorten the time to get to the top. In any case, we have options.

I actually really like the idea of dropping the bottom 4 from D1 in the future, would make the competition really fierce, and make D1 less stagnant since it would be having 4 people moving like every other division. This is a fantastic idea if we end up with 5 divisions.
