Plenty of smart people believe retarded things and are stubborn or unreasonable about them. It's simple human nature to accept and believe your natural inclinations over any level of evidence or logic, and this is a sign of mid-wit intelligence more than anything else.

Generally, a smart person will in other ways demonstrate that they are smart. I can't say that I've ever observed that from Mist.
