Even a good funnel would struggle with 52 wild polar bears. My funniest moment so far is getting raided, thinking my base is good. While Im doing other stuff waiting for them to come through my funnel, they mined into my storage area and stole all my gold and silver. Couldnt do anything but laugh.

Yea I dunno about these expansions after running a few colonies.

The mech clusters that pod drop in are just so far and above any other kind of raid that I'm not even sure why they exist other than to cap how long you can run a colony?

Once you're a few years in the cluster drops have both low and high angle shields, multiple mortars, multiple automated charge/flame turrets, and then just the usual dozens of mechs + random additional pods once you wake them up. I just don't see any way you can crack these without it just being a mortal blow for any colony, regardless of your wealth/tech level.

Like sure you can EMP the shield bubbles, but then what? You can't match the firepower of the launcher turrets + centipedes, even with marine/recon armor and charge weapons. You can't pull them out of their camp either cause once it's awake the mortar launchers will just decimate you, and not to mention it just starts producing more mechanoids the second they activate. Armored up melee specialists are still as strong as ever vs lancers/centipedes, but good lucky getting them in there through the withering fire from 6-10 mini mech turrets + whatever launcher hits land on them.

Every colony I've run now just hits a brick wall at a certain point with one of these mech drops and it's getting pretty old. I guess I need to just aggressively shop for doomsday rockets and nuke them?

So I've had this in my library since it came out but I could never get into it.

After watching lots of ambiguousamphibian YouTube the past month it's finally clicked. Now I'm running a yayo operation.

Fuck. Spent so much time making a mega yayo biz that I neglected my ability to build up offenses so now I get trampled by any cyborg invasion.

Those fucks almost always wipe me out if I piss them off somehow. End game, early game, doesnt matter. I know how to defeat them, but Ill be so crippled after that, that I just wont want to keep on playing the same map.

The sectoids are extremely vulnerable to getting meleed to death. They have giga piercing armor, which means it's very hard to shoot them to death, especially the bigger ones. Their blunt armor however is trash, and their melee DPS isn't much more than a normal human with fists.

Getting in to a shooting fight with the centipedes with flame launchers or gatling lasers is a doomed venture. Try and keep at least one grenade belt of EMP grenades around, or EMP rockets if you find them, and use those to lock them up for a bit and just put one or two pawns on them in melee. A pawn with like 5-10 melee skill and a uranium mace can club a centipede to death solo, very often 2 or 3 of them in a row.

They also have extremely shit ranged tracking, so if there's no good approach you usually need to just run someone across their field of fire to draw their target while your melee guys close.

Late game once you have pod launchers you can just hot-drop your melee guys right on to them Space Marine style.

Do not ever melee the scythers though if you can help it.

This was the xmas purchase for myself, just the base game, anything I should know? Any tips or tricks? Seems like 1/2 the fight is learning the stupid UI on this game, lol.

I'd say start with Phoebe Chillax as the storyteller for your first playthrough but honestly you should just jump into the deep end with Cassandra and get used to the pain as soon as possible.

Just tie it off, bro. People are gonna die horribly.

Rimworld is like a government job, you just keep failing upwards until you accidentally get something right then a bunch of mech clusters land in the middle of your town and murder everybody.

Figure out food right off of the bat then you'll most likely die during winter then you start over, each time you figure out a bit more and live a little bit longer then once you've got enough figured out you live for a really long time and the game decides to randomly kill you and there's nothing you could have done to prevent it, then you plan your next game around not dying the same way and 50 rabid bunnies attack you and kill everybody. It's one of the most fun games to wipe in that has ever been made.

At a point, even save scumming wont save you from your downfall. But dont get us wrong, there is a perfectly valid way to beat every encounter - but if you didnt do that certain thing to be able to do that certain thing... well, you're just gonna have to learn to prepare for it next time. I've beat the game several times though, and alllll the different play throughs were well worth it.

Australia is cooked
"depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified."

Eh, Australia has been like that for ages on the video game front. Probably the only reason it slipped through the cracks was because of early access.

The classification board has been complaining for ages that the government needs to update the standards since they themselves admit they are way out of touch with the public.
Government doesn't give a shit though, I think they are still in the 'video games and rock music are tools of the devil' mindset.
Australian gamers are very well versed in the processes of buying steam keys from foreign vendors.
