Whew, long fucking drive. Almost stopped at the Tillamook air museum but I'm glad I didn't. Just got back home and I'm pooped

Here's a few more. Mostly kid pics obviously.

And Brahma Brahma , I've always liked the Oregon coast because it's so damn easy to find a beach that you can nearly have to yourself. I spend way more time in the water when I lived on Maui, but the Oregon coast is awesome because it's empty so often.

Btw this is pretty close to the dunes that inspired Frank Herbert to write the book

All it reminds me of is The Goonies. I have no idea if its the same beach or not, but it sure is pretty.

As a Coos Bay native I was always partial to Port Orford.

You can drive on a lot of these beaches as well. When the coastline gets a little more rugged you can really just go off onto your own totally private beach if you so desire. Just takes a little getting to.

This pic doesn't do it justice but if the weather's nice the view from the hill behind this is a really dramatic one. Battle Rock in Port Orford.

Water is completely frigid. Kids were playing on the deck with like the hose and shit. It was actually quite hot that week (70s) just the mornings always look like that.

That floaty thing is a kiddy pool if I remember right.

Took the dogs to the river yesterday. All the college girls go sunbathing here and my GF didn't take a single godamn pic with them in the background.

Found some random rocks for the rock tumbler too. I don't know what anything is. Just getting into the hobby with my kiddo and I ordered us some posters and a book to ID rocks. This is kind of a busy spot so I'm sure the rocks are nothingburgers but we like looking for cool ones.

Those pics reminded me of our trip to the Colorado dunes when my son was a little dude. The people on the ridge in the second pics helps with scale.

Just took my daughter to a rock & gem club. She seemed to like it and the ~40 or so people were really nice.....but I think about 80% of them are on the spectrum. Holy shit.

How many approached you trying to insert an Authentic PNW river rock up your ass while telling you birds aren't real because your chakras are blocked?

This just warms my cold, shriveled heart.

Just a father out showing his kid how to make friends with the Sand Giants and then introducing them to everyone else in the zone.

That'll be a priceless memory some day.

The people on the ridge in the second pics helps with scale.

Id be running to the fucking zone line, too!

Fansy would approve.

You've added something to my bucket list. That is seriously cool as fuck type shit. I didnt know we had anything like that in the US. (Desert-esque landscape that meets the Mountains.) Your kid will never forget that shit, even if it just seems like "another day with pops taking me out into the middle of nowhere!"

It was definitely badass, felt like another planet at times. Make sure you research when to go, the way those dunes work with that river it ranges from 300 to 900 feet. We went in the fall and I believe it was near peak time. Temperature is another thing to consider, it was only 60 degrees when we went and we were sweating. There’s no shade and the sand radiates heat.

We’re going again in a couple months. My son remembers it but he was also three. He said he remembers racing me down hills and face planting as well as dumping sand out of his shoes at the bottom. He will get a solid memory of it this time, will be closer to ten.
