And all of those other options are using Verizon/AT&T/Sprint/Tmobile's towers/networks. Those 4 companies control like 99% of cell usage in the US.

Correct 99% of the smaller cell companies are basically "renting" tower usage. It's why most of them are usually picked up by the supplying company once they get to a certain user base.

And that will never go away, thus isn't not an issue.

If being able to use those towers was detrimental to those carriers do you really think they could sell plans at half the price as those that own the towers?

sharing network towers is something that will never go away. Networks simply can't have towers everywhere, most cities and municipalities will not allow for that sort of thing thus they rely one one another.

But you don't think the big companies could strong-arm the little ones out of having tower access if they started to put a major dent in the big guys subscriber base? It would happen in a heartbeat. The little guys are tolerated because right now they are the equivalent of a fly annoying an elephant.

They can't, if they are open for one carrier they have to be open for all. Also they wouldn't be able to do that without shutting their own phones out. I'm telling you Strait up, it won't happen. You'd see them bad big carriers from their towers before smaller ones that pay them.

Funny as shit and I agree with some of those comments that they should do that to any and all government official IP address. Even if they aren't using work computers to browse. The thing that is the most interesting is just how easy it is to throttle. Sure Comcast won't do it.... Right..

The solution I've heard that I agree with is FIRST force all broadband providers to open up their lines to use by competition just like phone lines and THEN have everyone pay by the amount they use. But the FIRST part is required for the second part to not be abused.

Managed to get my Comcast bill from $256/month down to $122/month. That's including all the movie channels and 50Megabits. Guy said after the year ends to call back to "downgrade" so I can get this price again before it jumps up. No contract.

That's pretty awesome. I pay $150/month for just Dish Network, then another $60 for TWC 15 mbit +phone.

Just one of the reasons I hate ATT as a company.
AT | Stop the Cap!

Tacking on a $0.24 fee to their bills each month for u-verse subscribers, claiming it is a regulatory video recovery cost. It amounts to $2.88 a year per subscriber, they have to pay the FCC a $1.02 of that a year, so they are basically pocketing $10.6 million and blaming the governemnt for it.

That list can't be real. Looking at my phone/internet/tv bill I have

Internet 18$ (1gbps)
TV 8$ (no clue, to lazy to cancel)
Phone 7$ (unlimited calls almost everywhere, 5gb internet, 0.75cents / sms)
----------------
Total = 33$

The phone bill goes up by 1-2$ if I do a lot of international calls (like half the world is free of charge, everything else is ~0.75cents/min). They had the same prices for TV and Internet for at least 4-5 years now, 9$ for 50mbps, 12$ for 100 mbps and about a year ago they introduced 500 mbps for 15$ and 1gbps for 18$.

We get royally ass fucked by service providers in this country. Thanks to the way things are set up there is generally no alternatives either.

Is the X1 any good? I'm thinking of dumping Directv so I can save some cash by bundling Internet and TV. Right now I pay about $225/month for both. I pay like $80 for 50mbps in my area and the rest goes to Directv. My house would need 3 dvr's but I still think I would come out ahead.

Never had the x1 but have read its a huge upgrade over the crap they had but its still hit or miss reliability wise if your net isn't exactly perfect. I've spent literally seconds reading about it so take that with a grain of salt.

We recently went back to Comcast from D* and went with the Tivo Roamio with lifetime service. Works out to be a better deal over the long run and the Roamio is a much better box than just about anything on the market. Their premier (last gen) was total shit though.

Anyway,

I have a dilemma. Comast internet here sucks. Pay for 50mbs get about 28 on a good night. About 3 or 4 times a day the internet goes from 28mbs to .03 mbs and I have to reset my modem to get it working again. Sometimes that works and its back to normal other times I'm fucked for 30 minutes until their shit decides to start working again. Tech has been out twice and dropped a new line so its not going to be something that gets addressed anytime soon if ever.

AT&T has "up to 6mbs" out here. So the question is do I want reliable shitty internet in the 3-5mbs range or deal with fucking Comcast with their bi-polar network and the daily resets and occasional "fuck you very much but your shit isn't working tonight"

I'm dropping cable, called comcast today to tell them and they were like "Well you'll have to pay $50 to break your remaining time left on your two year contract!!"

me: "okay"

Comcast: "oh...."

rofl if I'm upset enough to cut my cord did the lady really thing $50 was going to keep me around? She was really invested in my backing down, it was almost laugh out loud funny when i heard the defeat in her voice.
