Time Warner's fix for CBS blackout: Free rabbit ears!

http://money.cnn.com/2013/08/23/news...out/index.html
That's amusing.

This whole blackout has my parents asking me about alternative ways of getting the shows they watch and the possibility getting rid of cable altogether. Unfortunately I don't think that would be a realistic option for them, but it does make me wonder how much this idiocy may cost Time Warner and CBS in the long run.

Anyone else's TWC internet bill go up? My EXTREME!!! internet went from $59 to $70 a month. I thought they were supposed to notify you of cost increases by law?

Not that I'm aware of, usually they do say something in the least obvious way on a bill from months prior though.

Yeah, I figured it out. Previous 12-month promotional period expired. Cost of technology decreases with time, yet the internet always gets more expensive!

Someone come fucking compete in my area, please!

TWC is pretty underhanded. In my area(not sure if nation-wide or not) last year they basically doubled all internet speeds. People with 5mbps now got 10 for the same price, my 25mbps that I paid $59 a month for got bumped up to 50mbps for the same price.

Well, last month I get a call from Time Warner, an automated message, saying that my "promotional pricing period" is about to end, and to call them to secure low prices again. I gave them a call, and they told me I could keep the $59 a month price if I signed a 2-year contract. I basically told them to piss off since Google Fiber is expanding in my city. Well, 2 months later my bill is now $70. Still not terrible, but it's pretty underhanded business practice to give everyone a "free upgrade" one year and then bump the prices up the next.

Yeah the promo stuff will get you if you're not paying attention to it. It's one thing nice that my company does, they put where you are at in your promotion time in big bolded letters on your bill so I don't have to many people come bitch at me when they fall out of it.

Our pricing structure is pretty dumb though, with them rolling out 60/80/100 in fiber areas though we have hopes they will redo their pricing structure like they did when 40 came out because right now we are priced pretty shitty for 20 and 40mb speeds once out of promotion.

Stretching your image makes everything wider. You must have a magical TV. Or it's just cutting the top and bottom.

I don't doubt it, most women are very technology oblivious. A couple Christmases ago I bought a new Samsung HDTV for our living room(replaced a standard-def tube TV). I hooked it up late Christmas eve after my wife went to bed. We got up on Christmas Day, exchanged gifts, and she proceeded to actually turn on the TV and watch it for like 3 hours without saying a word. I went down to our family room, watched TV for a while, played on the computer, came back upstairs and she still hadn't said a word. I finally asked her "did you find your last Christmas present?" She was totally perplexed. She started to get up to go look around the house and I stopped her to inform her that the TV she had been watching for HOURS was a new HDTV(and she was even watching HD channels). She had no clue.

women...

Pretty much, I swapped out the old box tv in our bedroom for a nice HD one and she is mad I got it because I wasted money on something that is no different than what we had.

-sigh-

This is not true. Shit looks the same to my wife and that's all I give a fuck about.

I mean, I already said that once, why not say it a second time?
You said it doesn't distort it, as I quoted in my post. This is absolutely, without a doubt, demonstrably incorrect, whether or not you or your wife care about it.

For fucks sake man, for a 4th time she doesn't think it does, that's all that matters to me. Period, end of story.
