That worked. I have access to a Hulu with Disney+ account; so when scanning over the first episode on Disney+ I didn't see a commercial break set up, like it is usually on Hulu. They are kinda glossing over the politics / intrigue in the book so far. Hopefully they don't downplay that angle.

EP 2, finally all the politics and chess moves start. Hiroyuki Sanada can't hold a candle to Toshiro Mifune. The dude is usually great, but he doesn't have the physical presence of a Shogun. All the big players are emoting too much, Daimiyos are supposed to be pokerfaced.

the guy who plays the captain of the black ship was also in every episode of stargate universe. for some reason i thought it was the same guy who played chakotay on Voyager but nah, he was in a key scene in breaking bad - "say my name"

Enjoying this so far. It’s less a story about Blackthorne and more one about Toranaga though, unlike the initial series.
Few scenes are missing that I recall. In the original he was in the prison a lot longer and learned the basics of Japanese from the mad priest.
