It's a great show, which makes for pretty boring forum discussions. But, yeah, I too laugh at the jokes and find the situations clever.

This was another scene where it was totally believable a coder would do this. He'd see his algorithm bastardized and would simply have to correct these people.

i marathoned through the show the past week and enjoy it but you guys who say its the best comedy are crazy, for me Brooklyn 99 and Veep easily top this in big laughs and rapid fire jokes, maybe even this past season of P&R, its always sunny and archer. still top 5 though.
i know they did it for laughs but a bit annoying that somehow holding down a delete key will (1) cause all other computers on the network to freeze (2) delete files remotely (why would this even be a thing) (3) no backups by porn site? (4) what the fuck was he babbling about that their compressed files deleted faster remotely, that made no sense (5) who the fuck still uses ftp.
I totally get the writers just wanna setup a situation but they have bounced into deep tech nerd-dom in the past (LZW talk, etc) but oh well guess they really wanted that scenario. i dislike more everyone using an apple laptop that would be grounds for quitting for like half of silicon valley coders

I'm gonna have to agree with that delete key deleting all files remotely. that made no sense at all, i mean i can understand the situation they were trying to create, but why on earth would a porn site 'move' files via ftp anyway, that's the only way deleting them would have made any sense, they would have copied them, hence the original files would never have been deleted. Unless the laptop that had delete pressed was logged directly into the porns ftp and deleting from there.... but then there would still be backups, plus all the files they already copied, i mean they can just take that and copy them back.
Either way, great show, guess you can't over nerd it at some parts, just gotta let go.

spronk I think for (4) he was inferring that because they compressed the files so much they were able to delete them faster because they were smaller. I think it was a last ditch effort to save face
