We're talking about the show. Not a single person has said "OH THIS EPISODE SUCKS BECAUSE THE TECH IS ALL WRONG".

The way they handled what went down on this episode raised an eyebrow. People are talking about it. Get your stick out of your ass.

Well, I think it might not be as fucked up as I immediately thought.

Let's say that laptop is directly logged into Intersite's hosting platform's control panel front end, and initiating the transfers from Intersite's live platform to Pied Piper's, since those are the ones with the bandwidth to handle that transfer.

We could say Intersite's cloud platform has a really shitty front end, and holding delete with the currently selected objects deletes them from the cloud platform.

Now, obviously Intersite would have backups, but they still deleted all that video from the live platform, so they're going to lose days of revenue until they restore it all from mass storage to the cloud platform, 10s of millions of dollars of revenue.

It almost, kinda, works. About as well as the Kessel Run.

Really? In season 01 the entire premise of The Carver was reliant upon Pied Piper not having version control.
That kind of thing actually does happen. Plenty of start ups don't use source control or use it wrong/poorly.

If its a paid site then no, they arent losing any revenue they just will have some unavailable content for a few days. If its a free site they would still have thousands more hours of content. I jerk off a ton and I doubt I would notice if any site I go to lost that content.

I would love to see the hard Disks that are able to rewrite 9000 hours of High Definition video in 2 minutes.

Compression bro. Pay attention here! The files are miniscule because their compression is the most amazing thing on the planet!

That's the best part of this show. If someone ever was able to do what they are doing in the show it really would be game changing on an epic scale.

Intersite needs some Business Continuity planning. Very badly if that was the case!

So is Gavin the CEO of Hooli? Why is he afraid of he board? Or are we to assume he doesn't have full control of the company?

I think he is just trying to hide how massive a fuck up this is from anyone. He tried to blame it on Jimmy Barrett from Mad men so the world wouldnt equate him to a massive failure. I dont think its so much that he would be ousted by the board, but rather that they are the ones who would be the first to see behind t he curtain.

My read on the board is that he doesn't have majority control anymore and they'll can him as CEO if nucleus flops.

Except in the real world you just go jerk it to something else on the site. You think people are sitting there on their computers, dick in hand, and when they don't find the video they're looking for they say "Welp, guess we'll just do this another time" and put their pants back on?

Are you arguing that there is no intrinsic value to the 9000 hours of porn or whatever that was forever taken from this world? If we are to believe it as it is given.

The porn industry probably creates that every 6 months. I imagine ~300 new clips are established every day with a length ranging from 5-15 minutes. That's ~50 hours of content a day which becomes 9000 hours in 6 months. If I had to guess I'd guess they actually grow faster than that.

The board of any company can have the CEO out on his ass if he fucks up. Well, most companies I guess. That is how it works.

Is it worth arguing craft and suspension of disbelief with people who think it means a show can do anything it wants and it's your job to believe it because the show isn't reality? No, probably not, but shrug.

Complaining about a show that's awesome because you want to sound smarter than a show who's primary purpose is to make you laugh...is sad. They are spot on most of the time, the stuff in this show isn't real, it's not reality.
That's not really what suspension of disbelief means, and it's not about complaining or trying to sound smart, and trying to say a scene that definitely raised issues and broke their typical tightness and accuracy is 'sad' is dumb.

The point is exactly that they are highly accurate and believable most of the time. They had a scene that was suddenly not believable and raised questions. A scene that allowed many viewers to break their suspension of disbelief and start thinking about reality and not accepting the fiction. Giving an opening for the reader/viewer to doubt your fiction is bad. Proven by the fact we're discussing the scene, trying to rationalize it, misusing literary glossaries to say other people are sad, etc, is all proof something was wrong with the scene.

It was very clearly a moment that broke suspension of disbelief for many viewers, and should have, and trying to defend the scene or worse turn it against other people, while clearly not understanding what suspension of disbelief even means, makes you look like the sad sack trying to sound smarter than other people.

In short, you're clearly the one with the bloody panties, so don't fling them at others who are very mildly pointing out it was a weak point of the scene.

The scene would have been 100x better if they kept talking about Seth creating a back door into their servers but in reality was just him walking through the back door and Jin Yang finding some weirdo. That type of scene would have been epic, instead we got something that didnt even make sense to people that arent even nerds

Yea, I would rather they stick to technical realities. I'm not butthurt about it, but it pulls me out of a scene when I know they're just speaking nonsense. The level of nonsense they're speaking matters, but not much.

It's forgivable, but I hope they don't slip further down that road as the show goes forward. The "computer" things they say on some shows are just mindblowingly silly, like they're intentionally trolling nerds, but you know they really aren't.
