To demonstrate my ultimate answer: my personal opinion is to stop giving VZW money and go with a different company or even do prepaid. You can get a N5 that way. Please don't laugh at me.
I'm using an original Droid still. Have Verizon, and my phone has unlimited data.
I really wanted a Nexus 5, but that's not going to happen apparently. First, what should I go with? I've been reluctant to ever get anything else just because it always seems like something new is coming out, or phones have all kinds of problems (sounds like N4 has issues?). I'm at the point where I'd even take an iPhone, cause my phone works like shit (I'm assuming every new patch for every single thing is just making it lock up).
Second, since I have unlimited data, is it worthwhile to buy a phone outright and try to keep the unlimited? I'd assume the answer is yes, but curious what your opinions are.
I'm in the Mojave. I want to say I asked my coworkers and they said it's awful here. But that might have been T-Mobile when I was looking at the N5. I dunno, maybe I'll consider ditching the wife and going AT&T. I'll ask around work for opinions.ATT isn't good where you are? Their coverage is usually equal to VZW, they just get a bad rap quality wise due to being the sole iphone service for a while.
Which is exactly why they are expensive. If tablet prices are any indication, these things should cost $2-300 off contract max, but thanks to the lack of competition the cell phone companies can charge what they want. Motorola isn't going to piss off their biggest customer (Verizon) even if Google does own them now.The more reasonably priced unlocked phones, the better the consumer can stick it to cell phone companies.
Those sales are the biggest tease because they essentially have to line up with your contract renewal date.Keep an eye on Amazon. They were having the Moto X upgrade for Verizon customers at $.01 a few weeks ago. I believe the LG G2 was also at the same price for a Verizon upgrade.
