That deal was nixed by the FCC iirc.
Oh, I remember. There was even an embarrassing legal document leaked afterward that contradicted ATT's reason for merging(bandwidth and infrastructure). Yet the cost for merging was 10x what it would have cost to upgrade to the equivalent of what TMO would have given them. So it was really about eliminating competition, so the FCC should have nixed it.

But the point is that TMO was all happy to go along with it. I half expected them to die off quietly, having their constituent parts sold off to competitors in a fire sale 5 years from now. This ETF thing is not the same attitude of a company that was ready to give up.

They got A LOT of money and spectrum from AT&T when the deal failed. They had it written up that if the deal didn't go though AT&T would owe them some pretty hefty compensation.

My only issue with TMO was building penetration. Their spectrums they use absolutely suck as soon as you walk into a building. Outside they worked just fine and the speed was great on HSPA+.

Gonna be getting my heavily indebted gf a prepaid iphone 5s (HAS to be an iphone /eyeroll) for xmas. Anyone of you handsome and smart devils have any insight into which offers the best/fastest service?

If I am spending 500+ on a phone that will be on a pre paid network, I wanna make sure I make the right choice but know fuck all about pre paid network speeds so any advice is much appreciated!
I've been quite happy with Straight Talk on AT&T and my parents just switched to Net10 (same company, they offer a deal for multiple lines though) and they haven't had any issues. I would have given TMO a shot, but in northern NY, TMO is mostly 2G in a lot of areas, including where I live. Customer support for prepaid MVNOs is usually mediocre at best, but the 3 times I've had to deal with them I had no issues with it. One of those instances, changing my phone number, I was able to do without waiting to speak to a rep.

If TMO has decent coverage in your area and your girlfriend wouldn't use more than 100 minutes of talk time a month, I would give them a shot first, as they're cheaper. If it doesn't work out for here you can always switch, which is one of the nice things about going prepaid.

We're #1!

I am not part of this statistic though. I don't like having to hold something up while having my private time, the tube sites are all shitty on mobile, and it's too hard to fast forward and rewind.

i mentioned it in the bluestacks thread but amazon is giving $5 app store credit today till the 28th if you get any free app on their store. their app store kinda sucks for some people, but it does give 1 free app a day (usually shitty kids games, but free is free esp if your small kid has a cheap phone)

You've got until January 6th but if you sign up with ISIS on your Verizon, AT&T or T-Mo NFC qualified smartphone you can get $50 dollars FREE on your Serve account.

Anybody have an issue where the vibrate function stops working on a Galaxy? My stepdad picked up a Galaxy 4 and the vibrate stopped working after a few days. He exchanged it for a new one and he just called to tell me that the vibrate function has stopped on the replacement as well. Sounds fishy/user error to me, but having not owned an Android phone before I don't know what to tell him.

No, never. Between my wife and I we had 2 S2s, she now has an S3, I had a S4 for about 6 months and now I have a Note 3. No vibrating problems with any of them and we had the S2s for 2 full years and my wifes S3 is a good year and a half old

My employer uses Sprint, so I've had to suffer for years with using a Sprint phone. Serious suffering. Now, at long last, we switched to Verizon, and it's like God came down amongst us and blessed us all with his holy light.

Verrrry slowly, mostly because this jailbreak was not shared with devs before its release. Very little is working on ARM64 at this point (e.g. not even WinterBoard).

Bad area it looks - Sprint 4G LTE here is only marginally worse than your Verizon LTE you show there. (NE of Baltimore)

Not that I'd suggest Sprint with their pricing (of course Verizon is even worse with pricing soo....)

Grab a Nexus 5 and go off contract! Just ordered one yesterday and a month of straight talk, will write up how it goes afterwards. Going to play around with a VOIP solution too.

I was thinking about this yesterday and it's really backwards how it work. Imagine buying a new TV every 2 years with your cable bill(ok, this isn't far from the norm for average Americans). Or a computer was tied to your internet bill. Or your toilet was tied to your sewer bill.
