I was really hoping for built in wireless charging... although the thinness of the new iphone would allow thinner battery/wireless charging cases too, I'm pretty happy overall with my iphone 4 thickness after adding a battery case, it'll be even better if I switch to the 6.

Not trying to be a cynic here, this is an honest question. Why do we need smart watches?

Do they even have one feature that smart phones do not? And if they cannot replace a smart phone, then why do you need the duplication of functions?

Watches these days are largely a fashion accessory, are these smartwatches anything different?
said this in the pebble thread but here goes.

i have a pebble, it lasts 5-9 days on a single 2hour charge, it uses e-ink b&w. it is the most basic of all current and future smart watches on the market with no touch screen and 4 physical buttons.

my daily uses are as an alarm with, it has vibrate. i can also set an alarm/timer with my watch quicker than with my phone.

i can control my music with it easily.

and of course notifications on my wrist instead of taking out my phone.

this is all i want it to do, while there are 1000 watchfaces for it, i just have the most basic one on it and i thought in time it could be a fitbit replacement, it can't, otherwise it's on my wrist 23/7. (waterproof etc)

smartwatch/pebble works as an extension to the phone... all these other smartwatches aim to be a phone replacement with touchscreen controls android os speakers and camera and shit... i don't think that concept works.

So is there any reason NOT to switch to sprint with their new iphone for life plan? I mean 50 dollars a month for unlimited everything, which alone seems like a better deal than any other provider is offering (example I'm paying around 95 a month for unlimited att), and then A) Buy the device, 800 or whatever it comes out to be after tax, or pay 20 a month for 24 months which isn't as cheap as any other 200 dollar contract offer, which, for example on att includes a 40 dollar upgrade fee and full tax on the device (bringing it up to 480 versus 300ish, but still not bad) ... so maybe buying my device and switching to sprint seems like a pretty good option?

Obviously you don't know jack shit about watches and have bad taste. Enjoy your new iPhone though.
Looks awesome bro. To be fair though I have no intention of getting either, watches are pretty useless

I really want a smart watch, but all I want to do with it is pause/skip songs and podcasts, tell the time, and look at notifications and text messages and see who's calling without getting my phone out. About 90% of the notifications I get don't require any action from me, but I don't know that unless I get my phone out of my pocket. Taking pictures or surfing the web with a watch seems retarded.

I know that the pebble could do all that, but it's ugly as hell. Battery life is a no brainer. I'm not buying the thing if there is any chance that the battery will die before I got to bed at night. Also, is the time always visible on the 360/iWatch or do you have to turn the screen on to see it?

It also just occurred to me that I might become one of those people that wears their watch on the inside of their wrist since I don't necessarily want people around me reading my emails and texts off of my wrist if they pop up on their own.

I always have this reaction. I've heard men talking about watches and I'm just like, "You realize watches at this point in time are essentially just jewelry for men, right?"

This is ugly jewelry for men. May as well be wearing one of those plastic Timex's you can get for $5 at Walmart. Are we really getting to the point now that we're too lazy to pick up the phone anymore?

you sure you don't want a pebble? pebble regular uses 22mm standard watch bands, i have a black pebble and bought a metal watch band, its nice enough, theres also the new pebble steel (metal)

i bought mine at the perfect 99$ price, it's also not platform dependent (ios or android)

I don't know, maybe I do want a pebble.

And I think you guys poo pooing watches haven't worn one for a while. When you wear a watch you always know what time it is because it just takes a quick glance at your wrist. It doesn't seem like a big thing to pull out your phone until you get used to wearing a watch and then it seems like a big hassle, particularly if your hands are dirty or you are sitting down.

what i haven't touched on is the pebble app/watchface eco system.

basically think of it as app store vs. google play. every app comes out on app store first, if they even touch google play at all. it's only now with the sheer success of droid that the play market is useful, otherwise it could have very well have been like the blackberry market.

pebble app/watchface will probably have the best apps for a long time, they're first to market and support both platforms.

they also make it really easy to buy/download apps, (theres a separate, pebble app market) most apps are free but of course premium apps cost $$$, download the corresponding app on appstore/google play for $$$, and works pretty easy.

if any of you guys are even thinking about 360moto/iphone watch think about the app ecosystem, and if it's gonna be easy for ppl to develop for these devices, otherwise the watch really is useless w/o apps.

What kind of apps are there for a pebble? I for one don't give a shit about what my heartrate is or how many steps I take in a day even though silicon valley is trying super hard to convince everyone that this is vital information that needs to be monitored 24/7.

My Palm Pre in the iPhone 3 era had wireless charging and a crap ton of stuff droid/ios didn't have for years and some still not... but it matters not "actual" use- it matters what apple tells their isheep and what googlebro's are told.

but hell, I am a WebOS fanboi and forced to use BB10 because I just cant do virtual keyboards.

If you're in a good sprint area this may be a good deal. I'm not sure if many of those exist though.

Indianapolis ain't bad for sprint. The problem is 3G is still unusable, so make sure LTE is available where you want it. I have 3-4 bars LTE at work, which is where it gets used 95% of the time which pretty consistently gives me 7-10Mb down. Plenty enough to stream video, which is the most bandwidth intensive thing I would do.

I'm still on the $205 (+taxes and fees brings it to $235) plan for 5 people with unlimited data and phone subsidy. If I can't upgrade and keep my plan (no idea) then I'll switch

That is great news. My only real issues with T-Mobile so far have been service in my house, and when we took a trip to Southern California and service was shit the entire drive down. This will alleviate the service in the house, which is awesome.

I know that all the major players desperately *want* smart watches to be the next big thing but I still don't see it.

I'm both a watch guy and a gadget lover and I can't imagine ever getting one. It's a shitty-looking watch (yes, watches essentially are guy jewellery but I'm fine with that) and a piss-poor gadget that doesn't do anything my phone can't already do.

Watches ARE guy jewelry(well they are female jewelry too, but guys don't get much else unless they are Jersey Shore). Which is why putting something so ugly there makes no sense.
