I'm due for a new phone so I preordered a Note 5 this morning. It's supposed to ship by tomorrow. I thought about waiting for Project Fi, but I don't think it'll save me much.

It was either a Note 5 or Nexus 6, and I honestly like the stylus.

Well shit, this was an easy choice. I fairly set on just getting the S6+ since I rarely use the Stylus on my Note 3.

Went to Sprints website to look at pricing of the S6+ vs Note 5

32GB S6+ edge = $349 with 2-year contract
32GB Note 5 = $249 with 2-year contract.

Guess I'm getting the Note 5, I figured it would be more expensive for sure. Hell, I'm pretty sure I paid $350 for my Note 3 when it was new (vs the S4 being $200 at the time)

Very weird

(also, I REFUSE to pay a $100 more for a 32GB storage upgrade up to 64GB total...shit shouldn't cost $100 more. Stupid no SD card ports :/ )

I really don't like the Edge models. It just isn't a functional design feature imo. However, I'm equally surprised that the Note 5 is so cheap. I was quoted the same price, and in fact it's even less if you lease it ($25/mo with a $15 credit). Compared to Project Fi and buying a $500 phone, it seemed like a no brainer.

I really wish Portenzo still made Android cases. I love my Nexus 7 book case and was planning to get one for the Note 5. It looks like they just do iDevices these days though.

It's odd. The Note 5 is a good $100 cheaper than every other Note phone has been at launch.

Maybe it's Samsung just trying to spike sluggish sales in a saturated cell phone market? People are definitely keeping phones longer and longer all the time. I'm still perfectly happy with my Note 3, I'm not even sure why I'm getting a new phone...

Samsung has been screwing the pooch for 2 gens now. No SD card, no removable battery and prices are sky high when compared to the new X or oneplus. Just not worth it anymore. I mean fuck touchwiz and the 2gb of ram it takes up on boot. Things have gotten so bloated they are going to puke if they stuff one more piece of useless garbage on those devices. No wonder they have fallen from grace and will continue to fall until they pull their heads out of their asses.

I'll give carriers one thing, dropping subsidies is going to force the industry to take a huge enema.

I'm probably going to get the Motorola x pure

My Note 1 is getting old, the glass back on the 5 isn't making me happy at all.

Anyone saw any report how much of a pain in the ass it is to remove the battery on that last gen of Samsungs?

Samsung has scaled down Touchwiz significantly on current gen phones. I'm with you though on the SD card slot...pisses me off

Sales numbers on the S6 have been pretty weak. They might be trying to increase sales by discounting the Note, especially with carriers moving away from subsidies and cheaper options coming out.

This also may be the result of Verizon going to the non-subsidized model. If you think GS6 sales are bad imagine a note proved like previous gems without subsidy.

Also: Got my GS6, glass back sucks really bad, wayyy to slippery. Cover helped a ton. Seems good so far, negligibly different from my S4.

I was seriously considering upgrading early to note 5 from my iPhone 6+ (which I fucking hate), but the fact that it doesn't have an SD card coupled with the fact that they seriously think $100 for 32gb of storage is reasonable just convinced me not to. I'll just wait for the next LG or whatever else comes along next

Yeah, it's ridiculously slippery. On any smooth surface that isn't perfectly level, the phone will slide off. Looks nice I guess.

I've just never understand the purpose of making these phones out of fancy materials like glass that readily break, and are horrible to handle. Yes they look nice, but either you put them in a case negating the looks, or they get scratched to hell and look like shit anyway.

The vast majority of people using cases proves function over form when it comes to your cherished phone that is both are lifeblood and a total fucking pain to replace.

Bought this guy for the phone, its way nicer to use now.

That's the irony of it. They make those fancy looking phones but people wrap them in ugly ass cases. If someone would make a decently looking rubberized phone, people would use it as is and end up with a better looking phone in practice.

Wouldn't look as good in the store tho, so that would hurt the sales something fierce I bet.
