I fully expect it to sell out and see lines of people snatching it up. Apple is like a cult and it does what it's told.
I'm a fairly hardcore Apple fanboy and I will not waste a single cent on this thing. They need to do better to even be on my radar. Some of us do use our brains, yes, although there will no doubt still be legions of drooling troglodytes standing in line for their first kick at disappointment.

When their brand new, super "innovative", multi-year effort doesn't even outdo Pebble's first Kickstarter, they need to sit down for some serious thinking time.

Wait, Column, let me get this straight --

You're set on buying this thing because it integrates into the "Apple ecosystem", which dozens of sports addons already do, and because you might save a few seconds of time at the airport by showing a TSA official something they aren't used to seeing (and holding up the line while they question what you're showing them)?

Mind blown. Really.

A) its 350 bucks, not exactly going to break the bank
B) It's replacing my Nike Band that is getting older which was more expensive then the apple watch with half the functionality, and no way to improve itself.
C) If you would bother to watch the presentation you do not need to always have the phone on your person (bluetooth). It can function on Wireless, which is exactly what my gym, home, etc have
D) You have no idea what TSA approved even means. I don't sit in any line ever, and there is no line to hold up....
E) So this fits my current needs, and it comes from a company where I can't remember the last product they put out that was disappointing. Hell I still have an original Ipad that works perfectly

Have you even seen a pebble? It's like a god damn Tamagotchi for your wrist...

I'm an Apple fanboy, I won't be getting a watch though.

In my case, it's mostly because I haven't worn a watch in over 30 years. I don't like it.

Also, the watch has left somewhat unimpressed, the battery life is probably biggest issue it would seem.

That new Macbook is very nice though. My Macbook Air is 3 years old, so might due for replacement soon...guessing next year when they release the second version of the new Macbook.

I like a lot of things Apple puts out, this one is a big miss for me. A watch at this point is man-jewelry to me, every smartwatch I've seen in person looks ridiculous, and the apple watch doesn't look like it improves on that trend. Any of the decent band options puts it in the range of a very nice looking traditional watch, which will last years vs something that will be completely outdated in a year or less.

I also have enough shit to charge on a daily basis, I don't need a watch to add to that.

Get some charge pads son, hell they make furniture now with them built into them. Night stands, Desks etc.

Believe Ikea is even getting in on that soon.

Would that even work with the apple watch? It has that dongle to line up the inductive charging.

Not that the charging thing is the deal-breaker, the fact that it looks like a Casio calculator watch is much more of a turn off.

Well, I doubt they will ever make a phone watch that replaces the ones that cost 30 grand and up haha.

For picking up groceries, running errands, and working out etc. Who gives a shit what you wear on your wrist.

They're making a $10k+ gold version that's probably going to sell like hotcakes in China. I don't think people in that spending bracket in the western world will be as apt to pick it up over their Rolex/Breitling/etc mechanicals, but I guess time will tell.

I actually agree with you in regards to day to day errands, which is why I generally have a crappy Citizen on my wrist most of the time that I got for under $150. If I'm at work or in a suit I'll put something nicer on. I've never been able to wear a watch working out, which is one of the few areas I can see the use case. I'm always banging it into things in the gym.

It's 2015 and people are still shocked by the cult of Apple? The iWatch needs only the minimum shred of functionality and it will be a smash hit.

O speaking of that, I listened to the TWIT breakdown of the watch yesterday, and the surface they are using on it is supposed to be one of the hardest surfaces used in current technology. Something that they got from China phone manufacturers I believe, but may be misquoting that.

I agree that there is probly not many Americans that will shell out 10k for a gold version. Wearable tech is still considered pretty tacky

Do you understand the difference between a bluetooth connection, and wifi? because obviously you do not

4. Built-in GPS and Wi-Fi
For that, you need to be connected to your iPhone. If you go out for a bike ride, or do some other activity that can't be measured in steps with the accelerometer, the Watch can't track your distance without your phone.
One of the key notes in there presentation was that the watch will not need to be next to the phone when connected to wifi...

Almost all High end gyms have open wifi for their members... Hell my gym has Iphone chargers in our lockers, and pretty much on every cardio machine.

But let's be real, who uses those big ass plugs anymore? Haven't seen a gym yet that actually has the "new" Lightning plug.

On WiFi - ah, I guess they did add it after prototyping - I'd seen complaints back during what would've been the external testing phase about WiFi. Still though, it's likely somewhat problematic at times, like running Remote Play on Vita to a PS4. Will be good to see how reliable it is.

I love Column's intentional misquoting to compare original Pebble over and over again... (or an original Pebble app, which shockingly will look shittier than normal - just like DOS games look shittier on my PC)

Pebble Time isn't AS pretty, but it's not that far off for almost all the functionality and half the damn price. And note, I'm not saying iWatch is garbage, I'm saying I can't see it selling 3-5 million units in it's first wave - it's more expensive than the price most people get their iPhones at (thanks to subsidies), it's utility is situational and even the Moto360 that looks better and is cheaper and works with more phones along with more functionality currently isn't selling that well. [in fact it's selling poorly enough it's moved from "exclusive retailers" to the point where my local Wal-Mart has Moto360 signs up now - yes, Wal-Mart carries it apparently]

The one dude was implying he could buy one for resale - and I just don't imagine the demand will be there. (And frankly, even if I'm wrong - if they're producing 3-5m of them and they do sell well, they'll be churning out more quickly anyhow - there's not much catching up to do if you can produce that many in the short time they've allocated to producing them)

Well I'll quote you if it does, and FYI that screenshot was taken from the trailer you linked for the newest Pebble...
