I actually rewatched all seasons less than a year ago or so. I forgot mostly all the storylines so it felt new to me and I didn't have the salt of Andy dying after S1. The new guy actually did a pretty bang up job once you stop the comparisons. Navia, however, is more insufferable than even I recall.

Yeah, the "new" actress after Gods of the Arena was terrible. Nowhere near as hot, and incredibly annoying. The newer Spartacus did fine, it was just a fresh wound when it happened to fans, really. Amazing series, and much like Breaking Bad it ended where it should have instead of being drug out past it's prime.

i recently watched this too, I stopped watching live at the end of season 1 when andy left cuz i didn't want to watch a new guy, felt like it would be disrespecting the amazing job andy did - RIP.
loved the show although season 2 sucked. you should also play ryse after watching sparty, its pretty fun and set in a similar period. I picked up a few history books after to read about marcus crassus as well, really interesting guy.
also make sure to watch it in order - season 1, prequel, season 2, then 3. I watched the prequel last and season 3 made a bit more sense after that since so many characters flow from one to the other. Quintus Batiatus was such a fucking awesome character.
shit after all the fall tv shows i'm gonna watch this again, so many nice titties in this show. If you liked spartacus i highly recommend black sails, an awesome Starz pirate show.

I just finished watching this show and holy shit it was amazing. I'm not even sure what show to start watching now where I won't feel meh about it because of the awesomeness I just witnessed. I still thought season 1 was the best but those final episodes of the last season were really good.

watch black sails, Vikings, and Banshee - similar tonally to Spartacus, imo. I've heard some of the same actors also show up on Flash, Daredevil, and Arrow but I haven't really watched any comic book TV shows

Banshee is kind of like a modern day Spartacus in terms of tone, so go with that
Season 1 and the Prequel season of Spartacus were amazing. The 2nd/3rd season (3rd if you count Prequel as 2nd) was meh, but the final season got better. Such a quotable show

I actually liked S2 mainly only for Ashur's extreme levels of anti-hero. It never felt so good to hate someone so bad. Like I said I watched the show as it came out live then went back maybe a year and a half ago and watched Gods -> Seasons. Outside of the 300 inspired action sequences the show really holds up. And since I wasn't full salt about Andy dying it made it easier to transition into the other seasons post-Andy.

I'll put in another vote for Banshee, like it almost as much as Spartacus.
I tried to give Vikings and Black Sails a chance but couldn't make it more than a couple episodes into each series before quickly losing interest. Banshee is bad ass though.

Ughh, heresy. Banshee is just popcorn action. IMHO Spartacus was way more than just that. The story was a thousand time more nuanced than Banshee, the characters far more memorable, it had superior dialogue/sets, and worked to develop empathy for the characters FAR more than Banshee did. The entire cast of Banshee could die in the last season and I wouldn't shed a tear. That last episode of Spartacus was the first show to drive me to tears in decades.. Besides gratuitous violence, the similarities end there. Spartacus was amazing, that last season was epic, and the finale was godlike.

Yeah, I like banshee, but it has never had that same level as emotion and awe that Spartacus had. I mean with all the pop culture and silliness that has surrounded the "I AM SPARTACUS!!" line from Kirk Douglas, when Andy yells that line? I felt that in my soul.
