The original was great. This will probably be about as necessary as the Let the Right One In remake.

The original was super fucked up and the end was depressing as fuck - but had a very important message most people these days need to hear. However these trailers seem to show this version has ripped away some of the subtlety the original had.

Reviews are in and to no one's suprise they changed the ending and made the movie less dark and disturbing and more action oriented...

Good guys win, bad guys die and their child unhurt. Also looks like the wife takes charge and saves the day....

So it completely removes the entire message of the original movie. Yeah, that sounds about right.

For reference, in interviews, the director has stated variations of "exploring what happens when people are TOO interested in go along to get along / cancel culture where people let it happen and don't speak up".

100% has the hollywood ending, but if you enjoy watch James McAvoy, its probably worth watching on streaming, cause he is fuckin great in it.

The husband definitely does actively suck, but I think that is partially a function of both Mackenzie Davis being the bigger star of the 2 adult victims and the way the hollywood ending plays out, giving everyone a little moment to shine (including the husband, but that doesnt make up for the monstrous amounts of sucking he did leading up to that point). I haven't seen the original, but I honestly don't know how you tell the story without the husband being a bit of a loser tho, but I guess that is easier to do with the OG ending.

Watch the original. To me it has a VERY STRONG undertone for the ENTIRE situation going on in western europe these past few years. The gentle civilized Euros being ass raped culturally by the migrants and too polite to say or do anything about it.

To me the movie was just one giant , yet hidden, black pill.

I have not seen the original, so I will not attempt to compare both films based on a quick read of wikipedia, but I found this film well done (most of it is a subtle slow burning mix of behavioral comedy and psychological thriller) and James McAvoy, who can sometimes overact to the point of being tiresome, gives here a very nuanced and fascinating performance. If you step back and look at the big picture, it does not make much sense though, but that's par for the course in this type of story.

I may have to check out the remake.

I rewatched the original maybe a month ago, and I think I liked it a little bit better the second time, but my biggest beef is just stupid decision making by the main characters. I understand what the theme of the whole deal is supposed to be, but it just irritates me, and just sort of takes me out of the story.

Just a well-made weekend Hollywood movie with a banger performance by McAvoy who carried the tension for 2 hours.

Shouldn't be compared to the original, the goal was different here-- weekend popcorn thriller.

Takes long to get going, the family makes the standard stupid decisions, and the husband is portrayed as a limp wristed loser while the wife wears the pants in the family. P.S. The daughter is retarded. Saved you guys time. You're welcome.
