It's too bad Vince won't fire himself.
WTF? Vince took a regional wrestling promotion and turned it into a multi-billion dollar enterprise, he has made mega stars out of countless athletes and has now even launched a pretty decent football league (I really hope it survives). The man may be a steroid pushing snake but he knows how to sell entertainment.

That's kind of the problem for some of us. We want wrestling not "sports entertainment". Goldberg defeating The Fiend? What a joke. Who exactly was clamoring for Goldberg's return? Fuck these part time side show acts.

Time for an update on this!

We just had the next chapter of Roman vs Corbin and The Feind got squashed by fucking Goldberg.

Its mania season, did you really expect Bray to hold the title going into it?

I mean, I don’t like it, but let’s not be marks here.

Yes? Why wouldn't the most over gimmick be suitable to hold the title?

because mania isn’t about gimmicks, mania is about bringing in as many people who don’t normally watch wrestling with big names that have global recognition.

it’s been that way for years, like it or not. Bray may feud Roman for it after he wins it at Mania, but for now they are going with what makes them the most money. No one should be shocked at that.

Why is the title being on him specifically important?

Edge isn't going to have a title match. Batista didn't last year.

You can have him go against Cena as a WWE vs WCW thing, or put over someone young like Matt Riddle. I mean, you can even still do Goldberg vs Reigns in a spear vs spear match without the title.

If the title isn’t on Goldberg they have no reason for he and Roman to match up. The title gives them an easy road to do so.

otherwise I’m they have Bray and Roman going against each other and that won’t bring in as many non fans as Roman/Goldberg.

That leaves Bray open to face Cena, which otherwise Cena doesn’t have a decent level opponent to face either if they don’t go the Roman/Goldberg route. If Bray goes over Cena which I imagine he would, this will put some steam back in Brays sails.

I love Bray, always have and the angle bugs me too but from a business standpoint I understand. Mania doesn’t go by the same rules as everything else as far as booking goes. It’s mostly one offs to being in as much money on wrestle mania weekend as possible. Hence Roman/Goldberg, Bray/Cena and Styles/Taker.

Have Goldberg team up with Reigns to take on Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne at Survivor Series.

Set it up by having Riddle continue to run his mouth about Goldberg. Dunne and Reigns are in a Raw vs Smackdown vs NXT vs NXT UK match at Super Showdown, Dunne pisses off Reigns somehow, perhaps he teams up with the NXT guy (Keith Lee?) to eliminate him.

Goldberg hunts down Riddle backstage, Riddle has Dunne with him to back him up in shit talking, Reigns appears to make the team.

So during the match Goldberg and Reigns are measuring dicks by seeing who can do the most brutal spear. Not tagging each other in etc. Reigns is taking it as good sport but Goldberg takes it personally after Reigns gets the pin, so he spears Reigns to turn heel.

Boom, reason for the match and you've got a few other wrestlers involved in the next step of interconnecting feuds for later use (Reigns vs Keith Lee, Riddle vs Goldberg).

I probably just wrote something that's total shit, but it took me 2 minutes and it's better than the usual WWE storylines.

Half of casual wwe fans don’t even know who Matt Riddle, Dunn and time an extent, Lee are. Which means they have no recognition outside of WWE

Your issue is you’re looking at this from an educated fans point of view when you can’t. Putting Riddle in a match with Goldberg at mania is, no offense, laughable. Smarks like the idea because we know what’s happened between them. Joe and Jane Doe from BFE who dont know wrestling but WWE wants to attract because they need new fans, so not. They give no fucks. Mania weekend is for fans, the event is an attraction however, meant to be as huge as possible to gain future fans.

Think back on the recent Fury/Wilder match. They were advertising that insuring the Super Bowl. Not for my (a box fan) benefit, but to attract new people to it in hopes of bringing them in and getting them hooked.

Mania and Mania weekend are simply to use as many big names as possible to gain as much attention as possible from a global audience. It’s been that way for years and it’s what makes them the most money.

After Mania they then slowly call people up and build new names. Business will go back to usual.

Summer Slam is Smarkamania now, while Wrestlemania is to try and grab as many casual fans as possible. The problem is that how many people are really going to tune in to see Goldberg at Wrestlemania again? His best possible match already happened 3 years ago against Brock. If Goldberg has that much name recognition to bring viewers, then he doesn't need a title to do it. The name alone would sell PPV buys.

Then there is the bigger issue that WWE is mortgaging their current Wrestlemania structure on part timers and nostalgia instead of making current wrestlers into bigger stars. If Vince of today time traveled back to 2001 he would have The Rock and Stone Cold wrestle old timers like Bob Backlund or Sgt. Slaughter. The gimmick battle royal would be the semi main event.

I mean Mania weekend is bigger every year and makes more money every year so their model isn’t that bad I don’t think.

I look at Mania as a one off thing and things go back to normal after that. If Bray is as over as much as we love him he will find his way back in. Frankly the level of big talent on Smackdowns roster isn't super big, he will be pushing Roman again soon enough.

WWF / WWE has NEVER been about wrestling. It has always been and always will be about "sports entertainment". Now the WWWF (the promotion that Vince got from daddy) was a little more wrestling than entertainment but was still a whole lot of sports entertainment.

I don't think you read my comment properly. I didn't suggest Matt Riddle being at Wrestlemania. I wouldn't for the reasons you say.

I suggested Broserweights vs Reigns/Goldberg (like Graveyard Dogs) at Survivor Series with an angle happening at Super Showdown/Smackdown to set it up.

I suggested Goldberg vs Reigns at Wrestlemania, I thought the implication of the post was to explain how it could be possible. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I listed two potential feuds to save for later, not nessesarily to have at Westlemania.

I'm just trying to show you that like Edge/Orton and Batista/HHH, you can write non title feuds which people will care about.

yes, people will care about those feuds. People who are constant watchers.

not people who currently don’t watch much and haven’t over the years, which is who mania weekend is geared for.

Ok. I didn't say anything that contradicted you. I agree 100%. I and many others just don't want that anymore. I get more enjoyment out of AEW, NJPW, and even ROH now than I do out of WWE. If Vince retires or dies and things improve I'll check it out again but it's just total shit right now IMO.

Yeah ROH is suuuuuper hit or miss but I still enjoy matches here and there. I definitely could have left them off the list.
