10-20% of the potential audience and it taints the whole franchise is never a good thing, but since it's part of a streaming platform with no direct comparison "greater than 0, keep going!" occurs. Everyone KNOWS Disney/Kennedy left billions on the table by botching the movies and not capitalizing on Grogu toy sales, but because this started as CBS streaming and wrapped in Paramount+ it doesn't have the visibility. The vast majority of franchise fans have never seen it to be appalled by it.

The beatings will continue until stream revenue improves.

I had to smile at the scene on the bus. Initially thought lazy writing then realised it was the same guy from ST4.

Whoever is watching this garbage is going to find out that the Borg are misunderstood and have been mistreated by evil white men and Picard will apologize.
The Science is settled, its proven Borgification prevents viral infection. get the jab.

Okay the history of that song is absolutely epic. It wasn't just some random punk song they used for the movie the actor of punk guy there was a producer on the show and he and some bros in the sound department just wrote that shit off the cuff. Then recorded it in the hallway of the sound studio for the movie.

That is pretty punk rock by itself lol. All for a 90 second part of the movie and another 90 second cameo almost 40 years later.

Amazing.

Raffi is an incoherent and inconsistently written character. It's unfortunate, too, because we've much better examples of Star Fleet officers that have fallen out of adherence with their principles and discipline. It would be a great opportunity to take her character in any number of interesting directions, but as it stands it seems like the writers want her to be in this weird state of perpetual motivational amnesia.

The current-day stuff is being delivered in a far too on the nose and polarized manner. One of the neat things about Star Trek of the past was the writers' ability to examine present day moral and ethical dilemma and broaden the lens to (for the most part) avoid taking a political stance and stay at the "right vs. wrong" level. This iteration seems intent on bashing the viewers over the head with moralistic positions.

Which isn't really a surprise, given DIscovery.

pretty much. long as it stays green, even 1%+ is a major success on a new platform. if a few percent of people subscribe and mostly watch star trek, that metric is amplified several times over in different categories

I look forward to the day when consolidation happens in the steaming service market. I miss just needing Netflix heh.

When Netflix had the vast majority of the content I did a whole lot less "purchasing" "legitimate" copies on the internet.

Pretty good episode - referenced Gary 7 from ToS and hinted at the genesis of the eugenics wars. Only triggering thing is Picard mentions the Europa mission finding life in Io - what??? Why the fuck would a mission to Europa go to a volcanic moon?

Also no surprise with Agnes - People were wondering why the Queen would want Agnes, this basically confirms wanting her to become a new vessel to replace her damaged form. Although I do question how this works - right now she just seems to have a BSG Head Six thing going, but those nanites would start changing her at some point you would figure like most Borg

I mean Europa and Io are pretty close to one another astronomically speaking and starship sensors can go pretty far, right?

I'd rather then announced Levar Burton was coming on board as a director or producer or something. He directed one of the best episodes of Voyager. Give him a run.

Thank god, the only thing people hate about Picard is the actors involved - finally we have thespians that can live up to the stellar quality of modern Trek's writing and production!

Shouldn't they all be retired or admirals by now? Yeah, Generations could get away with saying 'Most of them were at a ceremonial event together for five minutes when shit went down', but I can't wait to see (well, hear via Red Letter Media) what sort of script justification they can come up with to keep them together for a season.

Frakes delivery and tone as Rykker has only improved over the years since TNG went from TV to movies.

He'll be a good on screen presence to counteract the ineptitude of Patrick Stewart at commanding the screen due to his age and weakened vocal chords.

And we are finally going to see Gates 73 year old fine GILF ass....

RLM is watching Season 3.
