Kirks society was moneyless. In tng the writers admitted that was untenable, so there is some kind of pseudo money. In ds9 the writers allowed earth itself to be some post scarcity socialist paradise but yeah, everyone else in the galaxy everywhere else still uses a medium of exchange more complex than, "hey, bro!"
but you know, if star trek writers could outline a rational and practical scheme for the economy of post scarcity, they shouldn't be working for network. So I forgive them.
