Given how the rest of new trek has turned out, why do you want them desecrating that horse too?

Picard already establishes the future sucks, so the question is just which talking point(s) the show actually consists of ( vs the material they were supposedly reviving).

I am thinking it becomes an ICE parallel, as DS9 is now used to jail the downtrodden refugees from the Delta quadrant. Will the nonbinary mixed-species commander consensuser of DS9 realize that all immigration policies are immoral and turn DS9 into a sanctuary station in time?

Although the gender fluid Odette material writes itself.

Just let the franchise die so I can still cling to some decent memories. The more garbage they create, the more it taints and eclipses the older series’ value and diminishes the name “Star Trek”. I’ll know the stake to the heart is there when they start banning some TOS episodes for racism or mysoginy or some shit, which I’m sure is next around the corner.

To be fair, Star Trek is hugely guilty of reusing storylines. Whether it's all the crew get pissed/high and they're all in danger (every series of Star Trek has used this except the CBS ones) or the mirror dark dimension plots they've pretty much all been done before.

On the one hand, DS9 has been criminally ignored since it ended. On the other hand, I'm not sure I trust the current Trek runners to actually do a revival justice. Given their track record:

1) Benjamin Sisko would come back to find Cassidy Yates dead, Jake creating propaganda, and his kid he never saw not accepting him. This would get blamed on the Federation being corrupt and sabotaging things
2) Quark would be a hardened, humorless man after Nog died trying to help evacuate Romulans and Rom as Nagus caused the collapse of the Ferrengi economy. Morn would get executed in the first episode.
3) Kira would become an atheist
4) Garak would come back and they'd probably have him hook up with Bashir or something
5) They'd say "hey, Trill basically live as different genders between hosts! Let's crank that up to 11 and really put it in the viewers face as a social message!". Dax would swap hosts every other episode.
6) Kahless' clone would become a Trump allegory and Worf would be blamed for doing nothing as Kahless destroys the Klingon homeworld with his ego policies
7) O'Brien would space himself through an airlock while trying to escape Keiko who keeps shouting "MILES!!!!".

Uhh, Siddig and Robinson always played Garak and Bashir as if they were flirting. The twist would have to be that Dax has swapped to an S&M leather daddy (or whatever the term is) and they have a gay poly relationship.

O'Brien, as the last straight white male on the show, would either never be mentioned again or turned into a space-Trump voting antagonist, as he couldn't accept Bashir's acceptance of who he is.

I can forgive revisiting plotlines in a "plot of the week" kind of show like a lot of Star Trek is, especially when they put a twist or flavor o it unique to the iteration. But just straight up "DS:9 revamp" fucking sucks.

I never got around to them but the DS9 relaunch novels are supposed to be pretty decent. If you want more DS9 I'd go with them.

I never got around to them but the DS9 relaunch novels are supposed to be pretty decent. If you want more DS9 I'd go with them.

I read a decent chunk of them early on. Hit or miss, but they were mostly satisfying in scratching that DS9 itch
