This is outside the timeline of all the movies we've already gotten, but not by as far away as you want. This one is 100 years before Phantom Menace. The only character that will probably pop up that anyone has heard of is Plagueis.

possibly yeah, didn't think about that. From everything I've heard so far this one is going to be almost completely focused on the dark side stuff, any jedi that show up are almost like guest appearances and won't amount to much screen time. Although there's still a lot of time for things to change. I think they start filming in the next few weeks.

How the fuck anyone can think TLJ was a good Star Wars movie is beyond me but then again I don’t understand how anyone can think The Batman was a good Batman movie so maybe the problem is me. Both fail their respective fan bases and main characters utterly and completely, Batman literally fails at everything in the Batman and like others have said TLJ was a character assassination of Luke with the “green milk” scene being a direct pot shot Mark Hamil. People who defend these movies as being anything other than complete garbage (respective to their franchises) are either morons or simpletons desperate for some kind of entertainment fix… or children.

What did you want? Rey to find Luke, stick his ass on the Falcon and then have Luke to just show up and WTFPWN everyone and fix everything? Mark Hamill isn't exactly action hero material at his age and arguably never was.
I think they did a good job of putting Luke somewhere between cranky Yoda and wise-but-tired Obi-wan without retreading too closely to either. There's a lot of shit wrong with that movie but I just don't see this being it.

What they did to Luke was the single worst thing about the movie. Yes, even worse than admiral purplehair or pointless casino planet filler arc. But I'm not surprised that you think there's nothing wrong with it.

How about Ray gets to his island and old Jedi Master Luke has been training Jedi in secret to take on the Knights of Ren and Snoke?
He's already fought Snoke+Knights and lost (flashbacks of losing Ben Solo), so now it's up to the new generation. Maybe he's already a force ghost unable to interact physically and that's a shocking reveal.

What was he? Did Luke even have a personality in Episodes 4-6?
Hard to write a character consistent with the original when the original didn't have much of a character at all. Luke of the OT was just an eager young idealistic dope. His only defining characteristics were his faithfulness to his friends and his completely unfounded belief that his father could be turned from the dark side.
Go back to watching Power Rangers, DBZ or some other weeb shit if you think this actually sounds like a good movie.
In short, try to find the redeeming qualities in this irredeemable movie just like Luke found redeeming qualities in his irredeemable father. May the Force Be With You.
