Not having same director/vision for all 3 movies was the issue from the start. I also don't get all the hate TFA gets, not saying it was great by any stretch but I'll echo others that it did a good job introducing the new characters and having a good amount of threads to pull on and tease out how we got from there to here over 30 years.
I also wonder how much of Carrie Fisher dying fucked some of the new movie. I know they had said from even before she passed that IX was supposed to be "her" film in that TFA was Han's, and TLJ was Luke's. Curious if there was ever a thought to not have her be a focus because she passed, or if they were just hell bent on trying to use old footage to tie her in as much as they could.
The first trilogy was the best thing ever to happen to me as a child. Absolutely born at the right time to experience Star Wars mania. It was legit a part of the culture but that could just be kid talk.
The prequels were largely disappointing but not offensive (minus midichlorians, that shit was dumb). The prequels to me were like the Batman sequels that came before The Dark Knight Trilogy.
I actually liked the TFA. Rehash or not, it entertained me, gave me some nostalgia feel goods, and opened the door for some interesting story lines as others have pointed out. Batman Begins had its issues too but opened the door for The Dark Knight, which is what TLJ had the chance to be.
But instead TLJ went the route of Batman & Robin:
And bat nipples.
There was A LOT of goodwill after TFA but TLJ turned everyone, including me. I was a huge fan (not fanboi) but now I find myself in a place where I just don't care. The drama surrounding this story is better than the story now.
This is a pretty good list:
What The Haters Are Saying About Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Why the fuck didn't they turn Phasma into a Boba Fett-esque character. She could have had some great stuff hunting down an AWOL Stormtrooper.
Rian Johnson ruined everything with TLJ. He just fucking ruined it. And to this day he still doesn't give a fuck.
I'll still see this mess because it's part of my childhood and I need to see it through. Hell, I watched the series finale of Dexter, I can at least stomach this shit. But it makes me sad to think that an agenda driven cunt at Disney decided it was time to put an end to my childhood fantasy. Fuck her, fuck Disney and fuck Rian Johnson and the whole lot.
