Not having same director/vision for all 3 movies was the issue from the start. I also don't get all the hate TFA gets, not saying it was great by any stretch but I'll echo others that it did a good job introducing the new characters and having a good amount of threads to pull on and tease out how we got from there to here over 30 years.

I also wonder how much of Carrie Fisher dying fucked some of the new movie. I know they had said from even before she passed that IX was supposed to be "her" film in that TFA was Han's, and TLJ was Luke's. Curious if there was ever a thought to not have her be a focus because she passed, or if they were just hell bent on trying to use old footage to tie her in as much as they could.
Rey, the main character was a retarded Mary sue from the get go. Do you guys forget that?

Wat? No one accepted Purgatory as an explanation until the end of this garbage.
it was the first thing everyone thought in season 1, JJ denied that it was and that had people second guessing that idea. but we all still thought that was the case way back then.

The first trilogy was the best thing ever to happen to me as a child. Absolutely born at the right time to experience Star Wars mania. It was legit a part of the culture but that could just be kid talk.

The prequels were largely disappointing but not offensive (minus midichlorians, that shit was dumb). The prequels to me were like the Batman sequels that came before The Dark Knight Trilogy.

I actually liked the TFA. Rehash or not, it entertained me, gave me some nostalgia feel goods, and opened the door for some interesting story lines as others have pointed out. Batman Begins had its issues too but opened the door for The Dark Knight, which is what TLJ had the chance to be.

But instead TLJ went the route of Batman & Robin:

And bat nipples.

There was A LOT of goodwill after TFA but TLJ turned everyone, including me. I was a huge fan (not fanboi) but now I find myself in a place where I just don't care. The drama surrounding this story is better than the story now.

This is a pretty good list:

What The Haters Are Saying About Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Why the fuck didn't they turn Phasma into a Boba Fett-esque character. She could have had some great stuff hunting down an AWOL Stormtrooper.

Rian Johnson ruined everything with TLJ. He just fucking ruined it. And to this day he still doesn't give a fuck.

I'll still see this mess because it's part of my childhood and I need to see it through. Hell, I watched the series finale of Dexter, I can at least stomach this shit. But it makes me sad to think that an agenda driven cunt at Disney decided it was time to put an end to my childhood fantasy. Fuck her, fuck Disney and fuck Rian Johnson and the whole lot.

Rian was adamant about not making any alteration to Episode 8.

It just wasn't possible to reduce or remove Carrie's role in Episode 9 because Rian was largely uncooperative about the possibility of killing Carrie off.

Its known as the biggest faux pas of TLJ.

If Rian could be singled out for any major mistake, that's it.

It also caused Treverrow's departure from Episode 9-- although he received writing credit. He had no interest in an Episode 9 without Carrie, and pressured to go another direction.

Kennedy pushed back and shut it down. Carrie was full-steam ahead, and JJ was on board.

Fuck Kennedy. She could have and should have told RJ to kill Leia. It was so fucking stupid.

Will Kathleen Kennedy still be employed at Disney after this?

Imagine the hubris to take something universally popular and a guaranteed moneymaker and turn it into a polarizing mess with a questionable return on investment.

She's still worth $150M.

That feels nice.

Box office tracking has this movie 20m below the opening of TLJ. 20m tickets is a lot of tickets man.

TLJ was 30m below TFA (opening). If 2nd week box office continues to trend that way... anything is possible.

That'd be a combined 50m in opening week money missing, left on the table. from TFA to Rise.

Is it possible that once you factor in the reshoots, the original budget, the Hollywood accounting, the marketing, that this thing actually makes like 80% less profit than the other 2 movies?

I'd watch it again if they actually did some shit other than Skywalkers and Palpatines.

Theres probably a ton of extended universe shit by Timothy Zahn that they could milk forever but they would need someone with Kevin Feiges vision to put it altogether into a cohesive vision. I think I would watch that.

Right now they can't even put 3 movies together with the current clown show.

was Star Wars actually "universally popular"? idk, nerds could go one and on about the extended universe in reality it hasn't been good since the early 80s, it's been divisive at best ever since then. The prequels did the same thing as these have done. I guess Rebels was good so there's that.

Huh? I only watched the first 2? seasons and the last couple episodes (friends' parties), but I thought that flash forward/sideways shit was the purgatory everyone was meeting up in after they died in reality (the island).

I'd like for them to move away from this era(episode 1 to 9) and either go back to the old republic which is what 3000 years before the events of the movies, or move forward in time a thousand years and create something new.

Honestly I would probably probably would like to focus more on TV shows either animated or live actions than on movies. I feel Star Wars is better in that format, I mean Clone Wars is probably the best Star Wars has been in my opinion.

Honestly, the only thing I'd be interested in, Star Wars-wise, would be a fast forward at least a few hundred years.
