It takes the second film before Luke moves any object with the force at all and even then he's staring death by yeti right in the face. The prequels are heavily at fault emphasizing all the fancy acrobatics and mind powers versus what Ben and Yoda teach Luke and what Vader says/does. I've always preferred the subtle mysticism versus ninja buzz saw Attack of the Clones Yoda.

pitch meeting and cinema sins are great at that. some people get genuinely upset that they critique stuff so ridiculously, but i don't think anyone or anything should be immune to criticism.

i think star wars got into the place that it's at (specifically this trilogy) because it became socially unacceptable to criticize things. just the other day, john boyega made a comment about going off social media due to being weak minded. he was talking about himself in that sometimes you just aren't strong enough to be involved with that. it wasn't necessarily a shot at anyone or anything... but then everyone got all pissy with him and were like YOU JUST CALLED KELLY MARIE TRAN WEAK FOR LEAVING SOCIAL MEDIA!!!

so you aren't allowed to be critical of something (even yourself) because someone, somewhere is going to purposely twist what you say to fit their own agenda. it's... well it's all so tiresome.

That's a valid point. I too prefer the more subtle power uses (though this movie also shows some cool subtle powers that I think are fitting of a Jedi) over the super-speed, super-jump, etc... that just makes Jedi into super-heroes.

The scene when Rey is burying the sabers of Luke and Leia at the Lars farm, she uses the Force to let the sand create a hole to bury the sabers, I liked it because I've always felt Jedi should be a bit more like a druid or a shaman than a wizard... working as one with nature, understanding life, the elements, etc...

But you can hardly blame the sequels for that, the power creep started as you said in the prequels, and then in the books, comics, it just kept getting sillier and sillier... at some point Palpatine was able to conjure "Force storms" that could lay waste to entire fleets of capital ships..

looks like chewie dies

That scene is pants on head retarded, and doesn't get resolved any better than when it was placed in the first trailer for the movie. What did he think he was going to do with that TIE, ram her? Why not fucking blast her, or get out and have a lightsaber duel. I'm not sure if the logic behind flying straight at her, or the fact that he survives the crash, is the dumber part. And that doesn't even address the force dick waving contest over the ship.

I'll admit that I enjoy the ninja lightsaber sword fights of the prequels but they should really bump up the anticipation of it.

Having fight scene after fight scene is draining

i never necessarily had a problem with those two different views of the force/jedi... my problem was that they were too close together chronologically. we see luke in the EXTREMELY early phases of training. i imagine that's probably very similar to a lot of the training for young padawans. with luke, he's basically never heard of the force so he's being taught fundamentals, which come across as mysticism almost. for the jedi in the prequels, it's not mysticism for them, it's their everyday life.

but again, they happened so close to each other that it seems so weird in juxtaposition.

what i would REALLY like to see, is differing viewpoints on the force. not necessarily sith vs jedi, but even jedi debating the nature of the force with other jedi. like, you SORT of get that with qui-gon talking about the living force, but there's basically no allowances for anything other than one viewpoint. fast forwarding several generations and watching a new order evolve where they actively work out the force in ways that are unattached to the jedi and sith orders could be really interesting.

i said it in the fallen order video game thread, but i'd love to see some stuff from the perspective of the witches of dathomir. they all use the force but even the jedi and sith consider them to be using magic compared to what they use themselves.

There's nothing in this movie worth putting in spoiler tags

Not only that but that was a serious high velocity crash but he walks out unscathed and immediately in her vicinity, not like a mile away and in pieces. The whole thing is contrived horse shit, and genuinely hilarious.

So should I spoiler the "body-air bag" force power?

Can I complain about people using spoilers or does that make me a faggot?

was Star Wars actually "universally popular"? idk, nerds could go one and on about the extended universe in reality it hasn't been good since the early 80s, it's been divisive at best ever since then. The prequels did the same thing as these have done. I guess Rebels was good so there's that.

Yeah, that's why Disney bought it for $4B (the same price they paid for Marvel) and each canon movie was either the biggest opener or biggest grossing movie of the year or both when they were released. Because they were divisive.

Universally popular might be hyperbole but don't be dense, this is a train wreck BECAUSE of how popular and loved Star Wars is/was. People don't want to hate it, they're being pushed away by agenda/ineptitude/misreading the audience.

Your ability to gauge the cultural pulse is off.

I think it would have been cool to have A ninja buzz saw Jedi aka a Mace Windu or something that excelled in swordplay/acrobatics. But yeah, everyone a ninja was a bad decision.

I didn't think they could actualy make a star wars movie as bad as the last jedi.

But it appears from that clip that I was wrong.

Best part was Finn being a total cuck shouting NNNOOOOOoooo as Rey killed Chewie with force lightning!
