thinking about it now, what could have been a really interesting story is if they continued the empire = nazi germany into some wolfenstein type fantasy... after the empire loses, internal factions vie for power. one of those factions is some occult r&d division that is able to start blending the force and technology together. they are able to gain significant power almost entirely due to fear. they could even start having like, a dark jedi council or something. basically trying to mirror what the republic had done with the jedi, but just off the rails insanity with force mechs. i mean, i'm not saying it would be GOOD, but it'd be way better than what we got.

They're saying the Falcon blew up with a couple of your favorites in it (I.E. Lando + Original Trilogy Droids, and 1 other character) and that's what caused the walkouts.
Later edits were supposed to address this-- the goal was to fix the movie so the entire Disney-era Star Wars series wasn't seen as being purposeful toward executing all of the OT as its SOLE REASON for existing plot-wise. Allegedly, the overtone of of this was VERY STRONG in the JJ Abrams cut. The goal of the re-shoots were to make Rise of Skywalker appear LESS HATEFUL toward the Original Trilogy. This was where George was allegedly brought in to help out with re-shooting and creating his own cut of the movie-- a less hateful toward OT characters movie scored better than one that was purposefully destructive towards OT characters.
It's not clear whether they stuck with the JJ Abrams cut which had the Falcon destroyed with all of the droids and Lando, or if they decided to give those characters a happy ending.
It's not a spoiler because:
1) it falls under rumor and cannot be independently confirmed
2) there are 3 cuts of the movie revolving around this plotline-- you cannot spoil the unknown.
3) whether its poop or crap, its still shit. You can't spoil shit.

Think thats two or three different sources saying they blew up the Falcon and killed off all the remaining OT characters, and I don't see how you just cut that out of the movie without leaving a giant gaping hole that needs reshoots to fix.
This may actually end up being worse than Episode 8.

Leia is going to be "alive" for the entire movie, Rey is going to "truely" be mentored by HER because, NO MAN could teach Rey...pfft.
Rey is going to have confidence etc in confronting the empire because even he could not manage to kill her and whatever... but then Palpy manages to kill Leia and it starts to break Rey down... until LEIA force ghost shows up (bc...rey has not seen a force ghost before right?) and THEN she is again empowered with GIRL POWER and solo kills Palpy a la kill bill final fight one shot master attack.

i would buy this rumor, except the Falcon is just fine chilling out in Galaxy's Edge. they would never allow one of the top attractions in their theme park to be blown the fuck up in the movies.
