Yeah, really dumb since they all get plastic surgery too so many of them look identical. Also the surgery they get doesn't look that great imo. Maybe it's the thing in Korea but bleh, looks bad.

Also listening to the professional players whine about the new maps is an absolute joke and poison to the pro-scene of SC2, imo. The reason SC2 is so fucking bland is there is a "best" build. The reason there is a best build is because every map plays exactly the same. When any map deviates and doesn't allow for this "best" build to work players throw their hands up and blame the maps without adapting. I am so fucking happy Daedalus Point is in the map pool. It is different and plays different.

Also why is there less than zero information about LotV out there? Shouldn't it be coming out within like 9mo-1yr?

Found out what the TB announcement is going to be. It'll be pretty damn epic imo.

I agree about maps with pro players. I listened to that part of Meta the other night and it was just pathetic. First off, the terran and protoss said they just immediately vetoed the new maps because they looked bad. Morrow is a complete idiot because he was actually a map maker before as well. He even kept submitting some double sided mineral base map waaaay back in WoL.

What pissed me off the most was Artosis was like, what do you like better, this current map pool or the previous one. All 3 "pro players" didn't remember what maps were in last seasons map pool. Like...seriously? 2 weeks ago and you can't remember maps that you probably played on thousands of time? Then Artosis says Whirlwind and Derelict and they are all like, oh yeah, those maps are sooo much better than Daedlaus & Heavy Rain. Let's not even mention they didn't say shit about Hab Station because they all apparently thought it's been in the map pool for a long time now.

Fucking foreign pros. So annoying.

I think if they are still targetting 2014 release, we will hear something in spring, remember that HotS was probably delayed after they found out their MP units were shit. They will probably invite journalists and fansites for a singleplayer sneak peek and launch beta during summer. With WCS being a thing, I can't imagine them wanting to release expansion mid season.

Pros want to practice on the least amount of maps possible, anything that goes against it is bad for them. Imba maps are fine, as long as you rotate them in a month or so, but since Blizzard is perfectly fine with letting them sit on ladder for 3+ months, you can't rely on that.

I can understand for like a marathon weekend long tournament like MLG or Dreamhack that having widely varied maps would possibly make for worse play but in a format like WCS/ProLeague where you know your maps and opponents ahead of time it can really be entertaining to watch.

In all honesty, the map situation is better than ever, at least it seems like we are getting ahead of BW where it's Fighting Spirit all day every day. I'd kill to watch BW game on Destination for a change.

SSL9 is using four maps and they all seem pretty different from one another. Fighting Spirit being the huge macro map, Mist having no backing to your expansions, Electric Circuit being almost like Deadelus with big ramps/bridges, Circuit Breaker allowing your third to be assaulted w/ high ground advantage. I'd like to see each map in SC2 play out a bit different. Right now, from a Terran perspective, it is:

Does the map allow for blink all-in? If yes => get fucked. If no => pray you win before 15m and they get a third.

TvZ the maps don't matter a ton but some allow for better muta play than others. Which is fine because that also means they allow for better drop play.

Seriously, protoss is like: Can I FFE? Can I take ez third ? If yes, macro, if not, allin. The end.

Interesting this may be the first big 3rd party announcement for MLG.tv. I was watching Unfiltered the other day and the huge draw of MLG.tv is that they commit to pay a fuckton for commercials. Like you will get 20? per person or something insane. So this may be a sustainable thing for TB. I like how he is making it not just another clan war but one of big scope with a few tricks thrown in. This sounds very promising to me.

I think he very much realizes that running another tournament without live audience is a recipe for failure, so he needs to offer something different. Besides, I think people drift to MOBAs because there is simply greater variety in what you can see, not to mention third party components like betting items on dota 2 matches. I think we will see arcade maps in the next homestory cup, at least as a filler content.

Yeah, I was on the "in-crowd" for the whole shoutcraft thing because TB actually talked to all us community mappers. I could have created some type of "unique" map but was too lazy. Plus I've already got Hab Station being played everywhere so my motivation to create something new was really low.

Should be an interesting tournament though just because there is a good lineup of teams and most of the maps are pretty interesting. lava rising in one, extractable bridges in another, 5 player map on one, etc etc. Like most competitions though, the community maps chosen are basically a popularity contest. There were a handful of better more interesting maps that should have been chosen but weren't.

Starbow is pretty fun, it's basically starcraft 1.5, the mechanics seem a bit harder so you don't have that much space to fuck around with units, which is imo good, solid macro has a decent edge over timings.

The high ground advantage alone makes it so you can't really hit timings completely. A few well placed tanks or goons makes chokes locked down completely.

You still have dropship harass and so on, the SC2 definition of timing being "herp derp I a-move" doesn't apply, that's true

I'm not a fan of the auto spacing it forces on units, seems really lackluster. If only sc2 just had some type of high ground advantage that alone would make it a much better game.
