From what I understand it is a power issue
That's what they said yesterday. The interrupts happened last year too.

A Message About Today's WCS Global Finals

What the fuck did they actually do to address this. Plug/unplug the thing?

At this point, it doesn't matter what the issue was, they utterly failed to formulate a contingency plan or an emergency solution well after the problem arose.

Also, I don't remember seeing such horrific "power issues" with the other streams/events.

You are way underestimating how powerful that Tempest is now. The fucker has passive Irradiate to everything. Like I said before you're reading extremely hard into showmatches against people who have never played the game before in a mode they'll never play in tournaments. Shit I think Mc/Hyun could have won with proxy gates since PoltSoo were just rushing tech every game. McHyun spent a ton of cash on gateway units which were getting ripped by tech.
Tempests are t3 tech on a race that is notoriously gas intensive, they would need 4 legs and lazerbeams to be worth rushing.

Yeah, so far it has been a clusterfuck, I really wanted to see the finals, but I guess I'll fall asleep watching commercials

Open Oracle for damage, move into Phoenix if the Terran has gone Rax -> Fact to lift the Cyclone then just kill it with Stalkers. iirc Hercs are light units as well so if he opens Herc (which appears pretty bad TvP) the Oracle can deal with that as well.

Annnnnnnnd once the issue has been "fixed" immediate interruption in game 2. I feel so bad for the crowd, but more so this has to be absolutely infuriating to the players.

A 40+ minute delay to resolve everything the first game, then immediately a fucked 2nd match. Horrible.

Yeah, we could theorycraft all day, but I seriously doubt they will launch beta with the same version they are showing now so it's mostly pointless. Phoenixes being more viable in PvT would be fun though.

I think overall Stargate play will be more powerful TvP. Carriers appear to be absolutely dominate with their new ability to tell Interceptors to "go here" and their new unit seems very good at dealing with marine clumps. It almost feels like mech will be more mandatory TvP which will also make the new Tempest very powerful against tanks. And if mech is mandatory that probably means you'll see more Banshees which also means you'll need late game Oracle + Phoenix to deal with speed banshee harass.

I'll also have to see how mech plays out LotV. Personally I hate mech so if it is the "new standard" and plays in a similar way to HotS I'll probably switch to Zerg.

-edit-

Actually thinking about it there is an emphasis on movement so I'm not sure if mech, or at least traditional execution of mech, will actually be viable.

Listening to Starcraft in a different language is so weird. It is seemingly arbitrary to which words they use the English words and which they don't. Like why do they say "One Base" in English instead of the foreign equivalent?

English fits esports the best I'd say, every other language ends up using some weird mix of English and the other language that can be very painful to listen to. For all the bitching about casters, the english ones are still head and shoulders above any competition I could listen to. Exception being Take, Khaldor and the koreans.

Seems like it would make the barrier of entry so incredibly high for a newbie foreign fan. Now you have to learn bits and pieces of a different language just to hear shoutcasts?

Well first off, the game isn't translated in every language, a lot of non english speaking people play with the english client, so any ingame terms used in english wouldn't be shocking. Then for most of the foreign people living in developped countries, english isn't like some sort of alien language, it's taught at school in mandatory classes from an early age and a lot of people understand english just fine, even more so when it's game specific lingo rather than the entire thing in english.

In general though I find most people just watch english streams to begin with. There's just not that many casters in other languages, other than korean, chinese and russian. There's very few german, french or spanish casters.

Depends, I think most of the people who started watching pre-LoL just started with English and it honestly isn't hard, especially if you understand gaming lingo. You probably won't be impressed by the pregame chat, but the games are really easy to follow and if something interesting happens, everybody starts yelling anyway and most of those people grew up playing on international servers anyway. I tune to Russian Dota 2 streams from time to time, because I can't stomach Ayesee and it works just fine.

LoL is a bit special, since it seems like it developed a decent following even in my language, which is understandable with the demographic it has here, starting with highschoolers. As far as I can tell, the quality is nowhere near the international scene. The other title that seems to have broken the barrier is Minecraft, I was kind of hoping it would push my cousin to learn English a bit more, but nope, he can easily watch stuff on youtube in czech :-/

I think learning to speak another language is a pretty good step towards being open to different ideas and not grow up into a gaming cancer like the stereotypical Russians or Peruvians.

My thought was mostly provoked watching HeroMarine who generally communicates in English but was in German today. It seemed almost like if it was a SC-lingo word it wouldn't get translated. Like "all-in", "1 base", "micro" and things like that. Things that could be translated but I suppose are such a part of the game are chosen not to be. I'm not shocked things like Stimpack aren't translated.

Well, German is a bit special, if you want to translate something specific, you usually end up with a frankenstein of a word that the uneducated won't even attempt to pronounce so no wonder most people rather use English.

From everyone on TL the dreampool is getting completely hated on. Apparently trying to play a normal macro game is nearly impossible anymore.
