Ah I forgot about that. Guess I'll just go with Peacemaker suit and Mantis pack/helmet again at the start.

slm 14? I knew about that for changing looks (mainly the genetic code or whatever it's called that you can't change at Enhance!), didn't realize it would let you redo everything.

That's what I used and I could change everything like I did originally.

I don't mind the mini game to pick the locks, however I have been massively disappointed in the loot behind the locks.

This is the main thing. There are a few copy-paste POI locked things which sometimes have reliable decent loot inside them, but there are also a bunch where you do a master lock and all that is in the closet are two things of ammo and a single random crafting component.

It would feel more rewarding if there was better loot

To be honest, I mostly get use out of lockpicking for quests. So many questlines are either made easier by lockpicking or are downright impossible to do correctly without, like the Ryujin quests.

Yeah it'd be nice if there was some connection between the quality of the lock and the level / rarity of the loot. Like, if a POI is spawned with a masterlocked weaponcase, there'd better be an epic/legendary item at or above your character level.

The digipick stuff would be fine if there was EVER anything worth getting in the chests but in 100 hours I've never gotten anything good and that includes Master chests. They need to seriously consider upping drop rates because otherwise you're just spending a minute for no reason. The mini game itself is interesting, but the juice ain't worth the squeeze. Either put interesting loot in or once you pick say 50 chests get an option to just auto-open.

Yeah like I said, the reason I installed that mod is because I know there won't be anything useful in that fucking locker that is randomly locked and I clicked E too fast and now I've wasted a digipick if I back out, and I was just hoping to do a quick loot grab of the room and not waste too much time.

On an entirely different subject, one of the highlights of the game so far has been randomly running into my parents at weird places. It was great running the quest in the Aurora Lounge and seeing the subtitle of my Dad saying something like, "Oh God, what are the odds? Don't look, maybe he won't notice us." Some of the people working on this game clearly had some passion, while others (like the entire UI team and the ladder team) obviously just fucked off until the last minute.

On yet another subject, I thought that the outpost ship builder was supposed to have most parts? I realize some are level locked, but I don't think habs are, and it doesn't have shit for what I want, so now I'm going to have to run all over and just Frankenstein parts onto my ship until I get the ones I want for the final build? That sure sounds fun! That, and not being able to actually see what they look like inside (and all the countless variations) until you actually buy one and install one is fucking retarded. I love the concept of shipbuilding, but come on, did no one on the team try to make a ship and think, "I wonder what this piece I'm randomly installing looks like compared to Variant B that I can choose?" I sort of get making you travel all over for parts, but at some point in the game it should just unlock for you or something. Unless it does and I'm just not aware of it.

It has about 80% of the parts. Which actually works out to more like 50-60% of the parts you actually want to use, at least in my case.

Only real option is to watch YT videos that showcase all the interiors. This guy has a complete series that's really well done, I've used it for all my building:

No, it never unlocks. There's a mod that does that, but I haven't tried it.

80% seems a bit high, but honestly I can't say. I know it had none of the cockpits from that manufacturer with the 2 story one with stairs, and it has zero 2x2 options, which Taiyo alone has a ton of. It may seem like not that many but several of those 2x2 options have like 8 variants, and none of them are available at the outpost. Of course 2x2 sucks with that 3 wide cockpit, but just saying I noticed it had none of them to even try at that size.

Thanks, I'll check out those videos. I really like some of the interiors I've seen, but without taking a ship apart and writing it down I never know which one is which.

I did check out that mod and I'm not entirely sure how confident I am in it, but I might give it a shot if I can't get a good list from those videos and just make a couple quick stops around the galaxy.

Yeah, the outpost builder is missing everything that is unique to the brands' main shops. No really big hab modules or tiny ones like cross braces and spines, none of the high-end cockpits/bridges, and even stuff like some of the landing gears are locked away which is extra annoying. Some brands of parts are missing too, like Deep Core reactors, certain cargo modules, etc. It's stupid because Deep Core can be bought at New Atlantis and you'd think that the outpost would at least have everything from generic shipyards like that. And of course you always need to run all the way out to Red Mile if you want a scan jammer, and same goes for any pirate parts.

It also would make sense to just have at the maximum skill rank a win button to expend a pick, solve it, and moves on.

The lock should have a higher chance of dropping a rare, epic, or legendary item than killing a mob. Right now I can get 5-15 colored items from clearing out a POI but just get junk from all the locks.

Trying to get loot from enemy drops is pretty miserable too. I'd ballpark my drops as about 60% space suit/helmet/pack, 30% melee weapons, and 10% guns. Maybe another 10% of those guns are actually legendary, and the vast majority of them are advanced low level guns like grendels and sidestars. There's probably about a 1% chance of getting a hard target or magsniper (nevermind something like one of the va'ruun gun which are even harder to find and almost never roll above base tier) even before considering whether it rolls advanced and/or legendary, and that's just from the highest level "boss" in the zone. Trash mobs are pretty much always going to drop trash white guns. Elites might drop something decent, but they're not high enough level to drop the really good shit.

I wish they'd found a way to make normal combat progression as fun as ship combat progression is. Granted, I'm maxed out now on ship stuff and built what's pretty much the best ship you can make, but it was a hell of a lot more enjoyable getting to that point. There's more 'carrot' to chase on the other side, but it's so tedious that I'm just not going to do it when nothing is permanent in the game anyway. At least with ship stuff I can go build the exact same ship immediately after moving to NG+.

I've been watching some compilation videos of the various components, and I think Vorph Vorph shared something earlier in that regard. This is the first one I've seen about bridges, but I'm sure there's probably more out there. I just been screwing around this evening trying to take the star eagle and modify it for a much larger crew. It's easy to get lost when just mixing and matching modules, but it's a lot of fun.

Nice easy to watch video without somebody blabbering on about stuff, along with convenient bookmarks.

Edit:

This guy has been doing a series I guess on all the habs. Pretty helpful when comparing the brands

I think I liked Andreja more when she was autistic space slav. Her post commitment attitude change is... a bit over the top. I’m dumping my loot into your container (game’s term, not mine!) and you’re giving me pillow talk after a firefight before I’m about to get into another one. Time and place for that, not here!

Yeah, it is pretty cringe but the real issue is that it would be a thousand times better if the companions just didn't say shit unless you specifically address them, or a story event happens. Andreja is still best girl though.

Started the Crimson Fleet quest line last night, and holy shit is that a long one. Had to quit and go to bed at 1am without finishing it. I would imagine I'm pretty close to the end, but that still might be an hour or two. Kind of funny that they didn't say shit about me rolling up in one of their heavy Type C ships before even being accepted. Great quest line though.

The CF / UC SysDef quest line is definitely the quest line I'd tell people to do before deciding whether they liked Starfield or not.
