Another thing about companions I'm testing right now... they kill steal BADLY. At first I thought it was just if I didn't shoot at all, but after trying to just tap them and let Sarah do the work with infinite ammo on a high dps gun that doesn't seem to work either. Tested further and even if I do all but a sliver of damage to the enemy, it's still really inconsistent. Sometimes I get xp, sometimes I don't. Maybe she's doing a single big hit that outdamages me even though it's overkill?

Ya, it's gotten to the point where I just leave them behind if I am planning to kill stuff for XP. Or do stealth.

I folded and got it. Not really feeling it though not having a mini map was a nice raw feel. But def felt it was some design oversight or laziness.

Just a fair warning to all who play the story first and plan to do the rest of the content after that (because Fusrodars and powa):

(no real spoiler but)

The game ends without warning you that this is the last mission and you should take care of all the remaining stuff first. After you finish the last mission the game immediately rolls the credits and you are thrown in a new game + (with some cool goodies I might add, you might be a ncie strat to rush the MSQ and then do everything else)

It seems a lot of people are comparing vanilla/just released Starfield to games that have been out for 5-10 years with extensive modding already done, DLC, etc., on top of having expectations that never really lined up with what they said. NMS was trash for years, Elite Dangerous is boring as hell after a little bit, X4 is great but completely different than this and too complex for most gamers (I could see some mods inspired by X4 though for sure). Unmodded Skyrim is terrible compared to a nicely modded Skyrim at this point, completely different games really. I just keep getting the sense that some people WANT to dislike Starfield, and they've been looking for all sorts of reasons to say its bad (and many haven't even played it themselves).
Yes, Bethesda are NOTORIOUS for updating their shit games and not just letting the mod community do it. Good cope.

Lmao - bethesda games really do let you go full RPG and at times, it's incredibly cool. Got to Neon, spent the next hours (all day to be fair) smuggling and running drugs, bought a shitty apartment next to my drug empire and am now setting up a base on a distant planet to keep my small burgeoning drug empire functioning while I'm off site robbing casino's. 20 hours in, there's a metric ton of shit to do all catering to different playstyles. Main story is pretty good, but I've completely shelved it for now focusing on extracting/ship thievery/hallucigenics etc.
Maximum theft is how I'll be playing too.

is there meant to be a background hum/buzz on certain menu screens?

My new PC has significant coil whine/buzz when watching movies because I have two amps in my sound system, the second of which is running in HT bypass mode which puts the second amp at full level. So I'm not sure if the buzz/hum is coming from that or the game

Since it's 'Play Anywhere' I tried it on both my Xbox Series X and my now-dated PC. Runs sooo much better on the PC, the UX is more intuitive as well.

it gets good after 20 hours i hear!

why the fuck should I have to waste 20 hours to know if the game is good?

in wow I was hooked right after my night elf warrior got assfucked in that cave left to the road to Teldrassil and some level 70 (I started at the end of TBC) opened trade with my trying to give me free bags. I promptly closed the window thinking I was about to be scammed and got called a fucking noob.
PoE had me dinging after Hillock and hitting P button for the first time.
Factorio gave me the most serious case of Tetris effect after a first day.
FF14 only had to show me Y'shtola and I knew I had found the best waifu.
Baldur's Gate 3 is a game I have been waiting for 20 years.

Starfield is not really a pile of shit. The problem with that game is that it's nothing more than your run of a mill AAA title that was in development for too long and missed it's release window by years.

Is this game basically Fallout 4 in space? That is what I want it to be, at a minimum, and would be quite happy if that is what I got.

To be honest it lacks the humor and coolness what made Fallout Fallout. It has some moments but it takes itself very serious NASA meets diversity and stuff at times.

Also: 90% of the quests make 20 year old MMOs look original, really. "Flip 4 Switches", "fly to x and get y and come back", "fetch x and bring it back". In the MSQ there were like 2 really well written and immersive quests, the rest was boring talk and zooming pardon "travelling" all over the galaxy. A galaxy that feels very small because of the decision that you can fast travel from your basement to a tent on Alpha Centauri.

Somewhere between Fallout 4 in space and Outer Worlds 1.5, with almost all attempts to be comedic removed. At least there's one thing I can say is a refreshing change from BG3...

Anyone got a good grasp of the outpost system yet? Can you use it to make everything else faster by starting early, or is it just one of those things you do late in the game and only if you enjoy that sort of thing? Like in FO4, if you didn't start doing settlement stuff early on, then by the time you do get around to it it's like all you're doing is building bases to be able to build more bases.

Not the game. Based on past experiences with weird PC and sound system noises I would definitely go with some kind of issue there.

The MSQ starts kind of slow. If you aren't liking it, I strongly recommend starting the Vanguard Recruitment quest series on New Atlantis. Although if you bring Sarah, keep in mind she is pretty lawful good in terms of alignment lol
