Watched the first episode of this, the pilot which is basically a TV movie. Pretty good, but it loses something by recasting Russell and Spader. Macguyver just seems like too different of a dude and the Spader guy is too similar so he comes off as a knockoff. In the Highlander TV series Adrian Paul had the right idea insisting that he play a new Macleod instead of playing Christopher Lambert's Connor, which he thought the fans would shit on. Stargate SG-1 should have done the same thing, just have new characters following the movie's footsteps.
The kid from the movie returning is cool, but a little jarring when he's acting like besties with these actors we've never seen before in the story. I guess he becomes Ra's new physical form so he'll be the bad guy?
All in all I liked this and like the premise of there being a whole lot of different worlds they can go to through the gates. Was cool how the Anubis-esque leader of the guards turned good by the end of the pilot to give the team some variety. Only thing I didn't like (besides the recasting of the characters) was how cheap some of the effects looked. The big flimsy cobra helmets on Ra's soldiers looked really, really bad compared to the movie. Just made me want the movie helmets back.
Gonna check out the Stargate Atlantis pilot, curious what it has to do with Atlantis, as someone super-interested in the whole concept. I'd love to actually watch these shows someday, and Babylon-5. I haven't even seen BSG yet though and still have to finish DS9, which I've been stuck on S5 of for years now.
