Remember when this show started on Showtime and the pilot episode had full frontal nudity? Michael Shanks remembers, that's how he had his first child. Although he later married Lexa Doig who also transferred to the show after Andromeda ended. A shame that Kevin Sorbo ruined the final season of that show.

if only there was a category for that

moms you'd want to take out for coffee
XX breeders who you want to see naked
ovarian people who make peepee go boing-boing

well i'm sure someone will come up with a name for it
Missionary Moms?

Watched the first episode of this, the pilot which is basically a TV movie. Pretty good, but it loses something by recasting Russell and Spader. Macguyver just seems like too different of a dude and the Spader guy is too similar so he comes off as a knockoff. In the Highlander TV series Adrian Paul had the right idea insisting that he play a new Macleod instead of playing Christopher Lambert's Connor, which he thought the fans would shit on. Stargate SG-1 should have done the same thing, just have new characters following the movie's footsteps.

The kid from the movie returning is cool, but a little jarring when he's acting like besties with these actors we've never seen before in the story. I guess he becomes Ra's new physical form so he'll be the bad guy?

All in all I liked this and like the premise of there being a whole lot of different worlds they can go to through the gates. Was cool how the Anubis-esque leader of the guards turned good by the end of the pilot to give the team some variety. Only thing I didn't like (besides the recasting of the characters) was how cheap some of the effects looked. The big flimsy cobra helmets on Ra's soldiers looked really, really bad compared to the movie. Just made me want the movie helmets back.

Gonna check out the Stargate Atlantis pilot, curious what it has to do with Atlantis, as someone super-interested in the whole concept. I'd love to actually watch these shows someday, and Babylon-5. I haven't even seen BSG yet though and still have to finish DS9, which I've been stuck on S5 of for years now.

I wouldn't watch Atlantis until you get to that part in SG1, otherwise it's going to spoil a lot. Also you miss out a ton of story leading up to it from SG1.

The initial casting for Stargate SG-1 was the reason the show was as popular as it was. The casting was one of the things they got right. As you go along, you will forget the movie and come to appreciate the dynamics of the four main actors who worked very well together. I seriously could not imagine trying to recast those actors and would hope any reboot would just have a different team with honestly no mention of the original one.

This is why the Stargate sequel film idea that would have used the movie and ignored the series was rejected by the fanbase - most Stargate fans today are fans of the show, not the 90s movie. Not to say the 90s movie is bad, but 99% of all the lore people give a shit about and the characters are from the show

This is true...

Just this last weekend, we were bored waiting for some things and ended up watching the original movie again. It's still a solid movie, I still love Spader and Russell in it. But in my head, when someone says Stargate, I go to the show canon first, then remember back to the movie stuff.

So the wife and I are still doing our extremely leisurely rewatch of this... And we see a banner today on it.

Apparently Stargate SG-1 is getting pulled off Amazon Prime in a week. Guess it's time to go back to my evil media acquiring ways... Pity the season 1-10 Blu-Ray rip is 1.4TB. heh

Wife and I have been proud prime members since long before music and video was a thing there. Back when it was just to save us money on her book purchasing habit. heh Haven't decided to give them a bigger slice of my economic soul yet.

Shows are regularly moved around streaming services. It'll probably pop up on Amazon again at some point. I know this is the third or fourth time I've seen it leave and come back to Prime.

True, although now I have a different challenge.

Getting all the episodes in blu ray quality, but they have three audio tracks. It defaults to the first, which is the only one which isn't English..... So either I'm resaving a lot of files, or I'm learning to speak Russian. heh
