I'm sure that's happening but US is also losing ground to other western countries.

UK has been funding this kind of sport via lottery profits since the 90s and always does well nowadays

Australia has a tiny population but have a culture of physical activity because the weather is nice - something many parts of the US shares.

Japan has home advantage but I never knew that they did anything other than martial arts lol.

The American psyche is broken right now.

Also you think Chinese/Russian doping is a problem NOW? Was it not worse in the Cold War?

Just pointing out that the numbers are skewed due to doping. The doping's just the same if not worse than in the Cold War era, after all it's still state sponsored with highly sophisticated evasion techniques and access to newly developed undetectable drugs.

Team's have improved over time, mostly due to funding and most noticeably the UK with the lottery.

They are listed as Chinese Taipei and do have medals. The ROC confused me too in the same way.

I don't know who this name bullshit tricks, everyone knows that these diplomatically denamed countries are Russian and Taiwan. Macedonia has some fuckery going on too with the FYROM/North.

apparently it tricks me. Thanks, I got it now. But what the fuck does ROC stand for? Russian Olympic Cocksuckers?

Edit: The one ROC dude I remember seeing looked chinky to me. Is Taipei wearing ROC on their jerseys?

I like how in the US when they list the medal count it's by total medals so we can be on top. I'm guessing the rest of the world is doing it by Golds so we're not.

BBC has it by golds and China on top.

US definitely has the most participation trophies though.

The olympics is about taking a stand against racism, bigot. We're taking that stand by sending activists and not athletes.

For the record, the last time (and near as I can tell only other time) China beat us in gold medal count was when the Olympics were actually held in China.

Men’s shot…US guys blasting that shit.

I watched some shot put and I couldn't figure out what there were 2 fields with lines in different spots. Both had 2 lines but they were a meter apart. They were all men competing as far as I could tell.

So in some decent news for the US, Ryan Crouser successfully defended his shotput gold from Rio and broke the Olympic record three times in his five throws. His final throw came close to breaking the world record that he set back in June.
