Yea no point in leaving that added incentive in for people that might or might not preorder in February or March. /boggle
Much like them getting rid of the bonus cartel coins for resubbing unless you resubbed back in Jan or whatever.

I noticed that my security key is stil accumulating cartel coins despite my having not logged in since December.

At least you still get a few worthless freebies for pre-ordering, but they definitely make some stupid decisions on limiting it. That has to be EA meddling

Anyone who hates what EA has done and still plays this deserves what they get tbh. If you don't like what EA did to this game, uninstall it from your hard drive and never log in again, free or not. Stand by your principles. Otherwise, don't bitch about it.

I'm not a fan of things activision or ea does, but I've been a sucker for this game and wow a long time.

I like James Ohlen too. Incredibly naive in mmo development but he seems sincere and was pretty blunt at gdc on their na?vet? and fuck ups. Sounds like they're turning it around to some degree. I still thank a true space expansion would catapult this to a very solid second place. They probably lack the necessary experience for that type of game system though.

This game is a complete piece of shit and nothing will change that. I honestly don't know how a company could fail so fucken hard with probably the most renowned fantasy franchise in the world and an unlimited budget. You would literally have to TRY and fuck it up to fail so hard.

If they added a true space expansion they would definitely have me back.

That article and others on Ohlen's presentation at gdc reinforce why I always liked the guy. He likes games and was brutally honest.

That's something they admitted quite a while ago. People were so engrossed in the story aspect they really couldn't "put the game down" as it were. Their research showed people in MMOs, even new ones, might do 2 to 3 hours a day, and if you take that into account then 3-4 months seems about right. SWTOR out of the gate was doubling that figure. In the case of brand new MMOs, most development was done on leveling stuff and not the end game, so people got to the end really quickly and subsequently had nothing else to do. And while 1.2 didn't take all that long to get out there to add more end game content, it took long enough and that's when things got bad, sub-wise.

That's just their marketing spin. 'People just loved the game too much!' I only played a couple of hours a night and got to 50 in a month or so. All MMOs have a lot of hardcore people putting in 5+ hours everyday, SWTOR wasn't unique at all in that regard.

ya, they say 170 hours of content. I hit cap in 6 days playing 10-12 hours a day. Its all crap.

Speaking from my own point of view, it's at least moderately true though. It took me about 9 months to get to level cap in WoW during my first play through (when it was 60) and 3 months on the second (85 and I knew what I was doing). SWTOR was 2 months and I found myself playing a lot more of it than I did WoW. In fact, I've played SWTOR so much at this point that I have 10 level 50 toons. Honestly, that's never happened in any other game. Ever. Even in WoW I only had two level 85 toons (and just 1 60 way back when), and that was only because DKs start off at 55. I know this is anecdotal at best but there it is.

Edit: Just went to look at one of my 50s I've not played very much and got there before the double exp weekends, my Sage, and she's at 5 days, 18 hours. Again, didn't play much once I hit 50, and even taking into account potential PvP queue wait times (we'll say 12 hours in all), with lots of spacebarring except for class story, which honestly won't take up the remaining 6 hours on that extra 18, and that's still over 120 hours. So the time needed to level is there, but people just blow through it.

Obviously content to them also means watching every single cut scene of every single quest available instead of space-barring through most of the boring side missions and heroics. Or maybe the time they calculated in travel time, holocrons, etc. Fairly obvious they had no clue about the MMORPG market or it's player base. Which is hilarious since Vogel should have known along with everyone else on the team that was Ex-Mythic/SOE-Austin.

it probably also includes planets that your able to skip entirely, etc, etc. If i remember right there were 2 level 20 planets and you only had to do the side quests on 1, then again at some point later in the game.

Balmorra (Imp) and Taris (Pub) early on had a bonus series available after you finished off your class story. Depending on how much of it you did (about half were Heroics), it was good for an extra level or two. It's usually enough to skip Nar Shadaa completely. Tatooine also had a bonus series immediately after but that didn't take you nearly as far. NS had a bonus series show up at ~28 (4 levels after you leave the planet). Taris (Imp) and Balmorra (Pub) again had bonus series after you completed your class story. Alderaan has one that starts at about 40, Hoth at 44, and Belsavis at 47. For the most part the "path" to 50 is about as varied as any other MMO out there. I don't think I've done it the same on any of my toons, despite having ten 50s.
