I'd definitely wait on the mini until the next generation when they will allegedly have retina display... although I'm not sure how terrible non-retina display is on the mini, I just think it was a retarded oversight/money grab on Apple's part to not include it in the first iteration.
It's a pretty ingenious money-grab on Apple's part. Keep the iPad mini roughly 1 generation behind the full sized iPad in technology. Then when the iPad goes up to version 4, the next mini can have all of the tech that was in the Ipad 3. Cuts down on R&D/development costs for the Mini, you know exactly what direction the next hardware is going a year ahead of time, just based on the full sized Ipad.

Are people still harping on about this?

The iPad 3 was already underpowered and shitty at pushing Retina resolutions. Mine constantly drops frames when I'm doing the most basic of tasks, which is annoying. The iPad Mini, which has an even weaker SoC, would have had even worse performance. Sure, they could have fitted it with a more powerful SoC, but that would have reduced battery life greatly.

It would have been nice to have to gotten a Retina iPad Mini, but it simply wasn't possible last year. For that matter, I'm not sure if this year's Mini will have a Retina display, either.

I had no idea it was a power/performance issue.

Regardless, I still wouldn't buy a Mini without retina display. I probably wouldn't buy ANY apple product without it.

Yeah, it was a power/performance issue.

Basically, to ensure compatibility with 10" iPad apps, Apple had the choice of fitting the Mini with a 1024x768 screen or a 2048x1536. If they would have chosen a resolution in the middle, like 1536x1152, graphics would have looked blurry and pretty shitty overall, and it would have meant that app developers would have had a third resolution that they'd need to scale their graphics to.

A 2048x1536 resolution display is very power hungry, and it needs a powerful SoC to drive it. Apple may be able to put a retina display in the next model, assuming they can die shrink the A6X SoC that powers the iPad 4 and fit the next Mini with a low power IGZO display, but it's not certain whether they'll be able to pull that off. As such, it's possible that this year's model will be little other than a spec bump, which would be massively disappointing.

Got the iPad and installed a CBR reader. I'm trying to drag some comics over onto the iPad but it's saying that it won't drag it because this iPad can't play this type of file.

Any ideas?

Never done comics, but what format are they in? You might need to download Calibre to put them in a format the iPad will accept.

Which app are you using? It's worth paying for Comic Zeal - it's easily the best iPad comics app.

I literally just figured it out. Using the app Comics Storm, I selected the app and in file sharing I allowed the ability to transfer documents between the iPad and the computer. Works now.

I'll check out Comic Zeal, thanks.

So apparently Baldur's Gate was pulled from the iTunes Store for contractual issues and BG:2 was halted from development. Pretty fucked up, it was going to be an instant buy for me.

I finally found something about Amazon that sucks. Their Amazon Prime movie/TV video streaming app is only available on android if you have a Kindle tablet. Doesn't work on any other android devices other than Kindles. They have an app for iOS, Kindles, and Google TV, and that's it. Sucks a big one.

Ya, it sucks. You can still side load flash and just go to the website, but not nearly as nice as the app.

I tried that, and the website tells me I can't stream HD movies at all unless I have the app or use a device like a Roku or 360. Guess I won't be going past my free 30 day trial of prime. Had several people tell me it was almost as good as Netflix. It's not even close...

Correct. When I click on any HD movie through amazons website and a web browser on my tablet (I've used Chrome, Dolphin, Firefox, and default Samsung browser) I get the message "HD movies are not available for streaming through our website, please view the standard definition version instead." And then it gives me a link to the standard-def version of the movie.

So I'm assuming you can only get HD movies from Amazon if you're using their app, not the website.

Here is the message from the Amazon.com website when you click on any HD movie:
"HD movie playback is limited to Kindle Fire HD, Xbox 360, PS3, Roku, TiVO or other Amazon Instant Video HD compatible devices"

So you can't even watch HD movies on a PC

No, standard def movies play fine, it isn't a flash issue. The problem is that their website won't even let you attempt to play a HD movie, they just don't offer that functionality at all, whether you are on a phone ,tablet, or desktop PC, it isn't happening. Amazon only allows HD movies to stream through their app, which is not available on Android except for Kindle devices.
