Android was already developing a tablet-optimized OS when the iPad released.
Really? Then where, exactly, are all the great tablet-optimized Android apps? It may be tough to admit, but Apple kicks everyone else's ass in this regard.

All of the stock android applications work great on tablets, hence the popularity of the Nexus line. Outside of that you're looking at lazy developers.

Dug my ipad mini out of storage and loaded iOS 7 on it. I... actually kind of like the ui update.

I'm still enjoying my Nexus 7 though.

I really like my Poetic case for my 2012 nexus 7. Has the on off open close feature is solid and looks nice. Got it off Amazon for fairly cheap too. It is my 4th poetic case for several different tablets. Galaxy tab 2 7 for a friend, Tab 10 for my sister and nexus 10 case for my Mom.

Picked up an iPad Air today. It's thinner than an iPhone 5s and the weight reduction makes a huge difference. I like it.

I'm so torn if I want to get a Ipad air, or a Ipad mini 2.

I still have a little time to wait for the Ipad mini to decide.

Kindles and Nooks are surprisingly good values. They keep trying to undercut each other on price, and both are actually really solid tablets that are probably priced lower than they should be because of that Amazon/B&N competition.
I purchased a Nook HD+ for my wife a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. She had tried out a Nexus 7, but really wanted a bigger screen and didn't care about having a camera. The nook does seem a little slower than the Nexus 7, but it's definitely not slow to the point of being frustrating. I thought I would need to load a custom ROM, but for what she uses it for the stock nook interface was just fine. For a 9" tablet with an HD display, SD card slot, and now full blown access to the play store it's a really great value at under $150.

Gotta agree with that, if you want a tablet for someone who is just gonna browse the net, watch movies and some music and maybe some light games then you would be crazy not to strongly consider nook/kindle. Beats nexus on price and build quality too imo, well atleast the kindle seems more solid than the nexus, I haven't used a nook outside the stores.

The price war and the fact that both companies really bank on you buying books and magazines from them really helps the consumer.

I didn't have one to trade in (that was a killer deal) but I picked one up from the Apple store tonight. It's a replacement for a first gen mini that was stolen. My insurance covered it, but they were getting on my case about finally replacing it. Thankfully my local store had them in stock.

It's pretty much identical looking from the outside comparing it to a friend's first gen. It should be a nice little treat to read and play the occasional game on.

I haven't got mine yet, but the Ipad mini is the perfect size imho.

Bigger then a phone, and not as big as a full sized tablet.

Hey guys, wife is looking for a tablet (our first). I might use it, but probably not very often. We're between two right now - A kindle fire or an ipad mini. Is the iPad going to be head and shoulders better than the kindle? She'll probably use it for internet and book reading, and I know the iPad can do both.

She already has an iPhone, so the transition to iPad may be easier for her. Price isn't a concern.

iPad is only really worth the extra cost if you are really entrenched in iTunes, with no desire to get away from iTunes for all of your music and video needs.

If you don't give a rats ass about iTunes, then the Kindle Fire or even Nexus 7 would be a much better bang for your buck

Third on the iPad, especially for a first tablet. It's got a bigger ecosystem than a Fire. If, down the line, you realize you don't need the app store, then sell your iPad and get a Nexus 7 or a Fire
