I figured out the wifi problem I was having on the Nexus 7. For some reason, my router was giving the tablet an IP that was already reserved for one of my security cameras. I had to make a reservation for the tablet.

You're saying that something as fundamental as an inability to get data over WiFi isn't an inherent lack of quality on the device's part but rather user error or other incompatibilities? No way!

Hey, at least I came back here and updated what I originally said about the tablet. I must say, however, that I have many wifi devices, and none of them have done this. There's still the issue of laggy UI. I'm going to exchange it for another one.

Try a factory reset first.

Thinking of getting the Ipad mini retina for the coat. Anyone tried the HDX 7'?

Kindles and Nooks are surprisingly good values. They keep trying to undercut each other on price, and both are actually really solid tablets that are probably priced lower than they should be because of that Amazon/B&N competition.

Wat. The new CPU in the iPad Air is 2x+ faster than the model it replaces. The Air is lighter and thinner than the outgoing unit, too...all without sacrificing battery life. You make it sound as if Apple orders little parts from Newegg and builds them at home. Sure, companies like Qualcomm have similar CPU's, but that doesn't mean Apple isn't innovating on the tech side.

Apple innovates on the tech side and they are a fashion brand...nothing wrong with that.

But good god, iOS 7 is the ugliest fucking thing to waddle out of a company since Windows 8.
Faster CPUs and thinner and lighter are not innovation. That is literally the least you can do if you want to sell a new version. Apple hasn't done anything original since 2007. That doesn't mean that they are not making very good devices, but they are not where you should look for the next big thing. I will give them credit if the watch they come out with is awesome for some reason, but my bet is that it will be very stylish, very expensive, and not do much.

..But the iPad came out in 2010.

The iPad was never original, it's been a big iPhone from day one. I think Brutul was pretty accurate.

It really brought the whole tablet form factor to the public consciousness and caused wide adoption of the platform. I'll accept that as innovation. As much as the iPod or iPhone were anyways, since it's all taking existing things that are clunky(mp3 players, touchscreen phones/PDAs) and making them aesthetically and functionally pleasing.

C'mon guys, I think it is safe to say that we wouldn't be nearly as far along as we are if the iPhone and iPad had not come out. You may hate what they are, but you have to give props to what they did to the industry.

The iPhone changed the entire industry, I don't disagree. The iPad however has never been anything more than a large iPhone. At that point Apple was done revolutionizing, they just went along with what everyone else was thinking, "let's make that shit bigger."

Which revolutionized how people used the devices, and massively impacted the app markets. Don't go pretending that just because the hardware is similar that a tablet and a phone are the same thing. They have different usage patterns for a lot of folks (and the crossover appeal is what allows for sufficient market that devices like the Galaxy Tab are successes). The form factor itself is a key feature.

The form factor itself was nothing new, tablet forms had been around for a decade at that point. The important thing was the software; Android was already developing a tablet-optimized OS when the iPad released. It would have happened with or without Apple. Apple proved that a touch-focused operating system could work well with the iPhone. After that was proven, larger form factors were inevitable.
