I meant compare your good i5 framerate against my ? Haswell Atom framerate.

The Surface 2 is supposed to be a 20% improvement in battery life over the Surface.
Not sure if you just miss worded this, but there isn't such a thing as a haswell atom.

Apparently the Nexus 10 is nowout of inventorynot merelyout of stock. I wonder if this means we might see an upgrade to it in the near term, if we'll need to wait for Google I/O or if they simply go away.

I heard a rumor that Google was going to go to a 12 inch tablet and a 7 inch. I guess 10 inch tablets are out of favor with the public. They either want smaller or larger.

Thanks for the correction. Haswell no longer matters to me personally since I went with the i5. It has been working very well.

So I am finally going to bite the bullet and buy a tablet. I will mostly be using it in bed to play games/surf but it would also be great to use it at work (mainly Excel). So with that said, I am leaning towards the Nexus 10 but I would also like to network it via wifi and be able to watch tv shows etc that I share on my network. Is it possible to get Excel in android and are tablets able to network with computers and allow you to view files on your computer? Or should I be leaning towards the Microsoft surface? I like android as that is what my phone uses and from what I have heard, microsoft doesn't have shit for apps like android / IoS does.

Thoughts?

It depends on what you think is more important. If you are going to use it mainly with office and excel, I think you should probably get a Surface 2. If apps and games are more important then probably one of the android devices.

Yes you can network. Homegroups share to android if you have es file manager or apps that support wifi networking, and I am pretty confident you can view anything shared on network besides just homegroup. I can view/edit all my files on my computer from my phone at home.

You can get an app likeKingsoft OfficeandPolaris Officewhich both let you edit/create all kinds of office documents, pdf's, etc. I haven't used them but the videos make them look as good as using excel.

Surface Pro 2 is awesome, but if you are wanting "apps" vs installing things like your steam backlog etc and essentially having a smaller/more portable laptop, then I would go with android. If the idea of installing and running any windows program, and any play windows game that is about a year or 2 and older, then you want something like a T100, or Venue 11 or 8 pro, or Surface Pro.

Better yet, just wait for this if you can handle the wait. Releases end of March. Dual Win 8.1/Android tablet that switches with the press of a button, has an i7, keyboard dock, 1tb drive in the keyboard, etc. So sexy. $599 supposedly when it releases.

I'm curious about the technical details of how the two OS are sharing one piece of hardware. My first guess was that Asus was using an Android emulator. But a little bit of googling makes it sound like it's actually more of an always-on VM, which is much preferable.

What I really want to know, though, is: Will we be able to wipe the Android partition and use a real version of Linux with Asus's OS switching technique?

The Surface Pro is an ultrabook, the Surface is a tablet. The Surface Pro is an excellent small form ultrabook that can also be used as a tablet.

As to the tablet, I got my girlfriend a Surface 2 for Christmas and although she misses some of the apps she has on her phone, she hasn't turned on her desktop since she got it. She literally has not turned it on because that tablet is versatile and capable enough for her to do everything she needs to but game on it.

For those of you that own the surface 2 pro, is it true the wifi card is slow and has poor range?

The RT has a desktop that works just like the desktop in normal Windows 8 including most settings and the File Explorer. Some Microsoft 1st party stuff can run on the desktop like Office and Internet Explorer, and in that case they work exactly like their desktop equivalents. However, you still cannot install things outside of the store or x86 programs.

Sweet. Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like a surface 2 pro may be in my future. It worth paying for the additional storage or can you use external hard drives via USB?

Yeah, its just a normal computer.

It has USB, as well as most of the other stuff like micro SD.
You can just buy a usb 3.0 hub, and plug whatever you want into it, or there docking station

Only thing worth going up to 256 gigs was the 8 gigs of ram, and the better proc.
I bought a car charger, and the type 2 cover keyboard. The battery lasts a really long time as long as you are not playing intensive games.

You can buy better pens as well. I got the wacom feel they have at most best buys because the one it comes with is kind of junky.

I'm planning on buying a Surface Pro 2 next month and I can't find anything that suggests that the 256 and 512 models get a better cpu in addition to the increased ram. Everything I've read said that the upgrade to the i5 4300 was for all versions of the Surface Pro 2.

Yeah, I don't know, but I can confirm for certain the 256 model has the newer proc in it.

Either way, going from 4 gigs of ram to 8 gigs of ram with the bigger ssd is the main difference between the lower priced models.
