This looks like it could be really stupid, mainly because--who has the arc now? What turned Terminator from a stupid, lifeless, action movie, into a decent, well structured, movie was the fact that it had character growth and a definable arc. Sarah Conner went from a weak, down on her luck, "lost" individual into a competent, strong, purposed one. But now we are going to start the movie with Sarah like that. Okay, so who is going to have character growth? Apparently it looks like they are trying to obtusely make Reece the one who needs to be "saved", but that makes 0 sense considering he's a soldier who has literally dealt with Terminators for his whole life; I suppose they could say he's never encounter a T-1000, or whatever, but Sarah wouldn't have either.
In any case, unless there is some spectacular spin on this; I just don't see which character is supposed to grow as a person. The movie could surprise me, but right now this just seems driven by the typical "How can we get X-over -the-hill actor in there and give the film as many nostalgic connections as possible" 80's remake mantra. And that means this is going to be another husk of an action flick where some director decides to put a "clever" twist in the story, which doesn't really make sense except as a method of putting some shitty finger print on it; and then piling on new special effects until it looks "cool".
Granted, the trailer made it LOOK a lot better than the pictures. So there is some hope. But I have a feeling this is going to be just like every other 80's remake given how fucking ham fisted that "what a twist" shot for shot recreation was.
