Sooo. Question on NPC's:

I had a Small World game I got one of my characters started in and my home easily attracted the first 4 or 5 NPC's as soon as I put the housing requirements in (individual doors, light source, table, chair). However, using the same character on a new Medium world game, I have made a small tower with multiple rooms, all of which meet the requirements, and the only NPC that has moved in is the Guide. Is there something I'm missing here? I'm already at the point where I've been attacked by the Goblin Army.

*Edit: The one difference is the floors of my new house are wood platforms all the way across; can I not do this and get NPC's to move in?
They can have platforms, but only a bit.
needs to be something like 3 real blocks. which the table is on.

And yeah, hermes boots+gravity potion was by far the easiest way to find the islands. only took 2 for me on a large map.
(I have bundle of balloons, and spectre boots, and umbrella... yeah. gravity potions were by FAR easier. particularly large maps where the islands can be much higher. one of the islands on the multiplayer map I am playing on is ABOVE the first one I found.)

and I had something like 6 of them from just exploring, without ever going to the underworld.

If you are really intent on the bridge. a few things to help.

1. silt "towers". you can just drop it in the air, and it falls. unlike others which need to be touching. and then you can harvest the base and it will fall into your pick there as well.
2. that belt to allow you to reach further.
3. bombs, and sticky bombs to remove it fast.

So what judges how water/lava/honey duplicates? I was digging a hole straight down to hell and encountered a giant pool of water...so I just kept digging until I found a giant cavern that I could release all that water into...unfortunately it just kept duplicating and now I have about 10x as much water as I started with lol.

Doesn't really matter too much because I ended up digging another hell shaft, but just wondering. It's just I know in a previous version I did the same thing but the water never duplicated, so I figure it's got to be new in 1.2

So are hardmode bosses just not soloable or what? I've got a full adamantine suit, crystal storm/phase saber/adamantine repeater and some other goodies but just cannot crack the fucking staggering 20k hp on twins/destroyer to continue getting anywhere.

I was able to solo the Destroyer with full Hallowed and an Excalibur without too much trouble, but that is a tier of gear up.

Check out this page for some strategies:Destroyer strategies

That's kind of my problem right now. Everything I've looked at says you want hallowed armor or better, but you need to kill twins/destroyer to get hallowed armor -_-

I still haven't progressed much in my world for various reasons, but I've been following this thread and considering ideas for my own world once I get to it. Initially I thought I would avoid infinite liquid glitches, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I do the exact same thing in Minecraft with infinite water. True, it doesn't work with any other liquid in Minecraft, but if it did everyone would use it too. From my previous playthroughs I remember liquids being a pain in the ass to accumulate with buckets and traveling back and forth, and with all the various glitches this game has in regard to displaying things on-screen vs off-screen, etc. I sort of think they don't really care that something like infinite liquid is available. There's definitely advantages to be gained, but unless something new has been introduced that I'm unaware of that gives you an IWIN button for no effort, you still have to go and kill shit regardless of how much liquid you have. I could be wrong, but that's my perspective on it, that it's a convenience more than anything else. Might as well use it if it is available, just like I use infinite water in Minecraft.

I view it the same way. It saves me a very mundane task (hauling around liquid buckets or creative liquid routing).

In fact, in my current world I made enough obsidian to craft everything I needed and have 100+ left over before I even made the generator. I also made several abeeminations and still had honey and crispy blocks left over from making them with buckets before the generator as well.

If anything, the generator was more for the challenge of design than gaining some big advantage.

One sneaky way to do the hardmode bosses is proper preparation of the battleground. I used a special arena with meteorite flooring. I let myself take damage and trigger extended invulnerability with my cross necklace. You don't even need the cross necklace to make this work.

First of all, as was mentioned, make a proper arena, or space to fight the boss in. For the destroyer, you want a piercing weapon. Spears or flails deal damage for each link of his body that they hit, and really tear him up. The easiest and best spear for you is probably theMushroom Spear, which is simply sold for 30 gold from Truffle. To get Truffle to move in, build him a house in a surface level mushroom biome during hardmode. To create an artificial mushroom biome, just lay like 100 blocks using glowing mushrooms, or better yet create a glowing mushroom farm, which should make the biome naturally.

Anyhow, with a powerful spear, and proper arena, the destroyer can be killed even in molten armor. An extra tip is heart statues wired to a timer. They will spit out hearts every 5 or 10? seconds, which are an easy source of healing during the boss fight. Heart statues are kind of hard to find, but if you ever see them in the underground, definitely bring them back to your base for boss farming. Another trick is to move your nurse NPC to a home very close, or even inside your boss arena. Then you can use her to fully heal you mid-fight as much as you want. The flipside of that though is that NPC's near a hardmode boss tend to get gibbed within 30 seconds of the fight starting. Still, you can usually get a bit of healing out of her before she bites it.

Once you kill the destroyer (who is the easiest hardmode boss) that gives you a source of hallowed ore, which opens up a lot of decent gear to handle the other two mechanical bosses.

My arena:

EDIT: Also, an option is to farm a suit of frost armor. It's almost as good as hallowed, and is just a drop from ice golems. Ice golems spawn during blizzards on the surface of ice biomes, and are easy to kill. They always drop a piece of frost armor, and within ~5 kills you usually can have all 3 pieces. Anytime it's raining in the world, it's also a blizzard in the ice biome, so head over and farm some ice golems.

Make a block base then a wood platform so you can jump between them, and fight The Destroyer first. He's by far the easiest boss. Twins and Skeleton Prime are like 5X harder. I was able to just straight up tank/melee him with tier 1 (life regen) or tier 2 (orich whatever) hardmode armor and just stand still while he kept running through and around me. Once you kill him once make a drax, go to the underground jungle and get chlorophyte and proceed to rape everything in the game.

I was able to just facetank destroyer out on normal ground with ironskin/regen/thorns potions and all my accessories reforged to +defense. Was only taking 1 damage per hit from his normal body segments at that point, so was able to farm through like 5 kills of him in one potion duration just spamming with my phasesaber and with the piles of free damage from bee cloak and nimbus rod.

I've heard about the heart statues before, but I don't have any of them nor really know where to get them (I think I saw one in the dungeon maybe?), so I haven't really bothered making battle arenas yet. We'll see how I fare against the twins now with hallowed armor and a megashark.

So killed Wall of Flesh, well it killed me first, he spawned the "wrong" way, as in I didn't expect him to go that way, so my bridge was on the other side, once I figured out he couldn't turn around I just TPed back to base and died there. Now in hardmode, shit is pretty alright so far, I went and destroyed a bunch of altars in the nearest corruption, got a few cobalt ores, wasted them on a pickaxe, I wanted to try the drill
frown.png
Should I make cobalt armor or just go straight for the next tier of ores? Do they follow similar patterns of difficulty so cobalt mostly spawned in the highest layer while titanium/adamantite will spawn deeper, like in the lower cave area? Also should I keep destroying altars? There's another crimson area near where I start that I haven't really explored so I assume it has a bunch of altars, but I don't know if it's worth wasting time spawning more ores when it spawns less and less everytime, vs just looking for ores.

I read that killing a boss will slow down the corruption. Does killing the eye of chtuluh count? I have a bunch of eyes I looted from chests to spawn him so I could easily rape him but I'm not sure if it's worth doing. I would have tried but first night in hardmode was a blood moon, with werewolves, made it a bit risky.

In terms of magic weapon, what should I be looking for as a first hardmode weapon? Currently using a demon scythe, it's still very good and generally kill mobs in 2-3casts if I let them come close enough. Seems Golden Shower is the crafted upgrade, but maybe there's an easier to get drop somewhere, it's hard to check which weapon is good since the damage rarely matters vs the speed and projectile type.

Smashing more altars doesn't hurt, so you may as well. The early hardmode ores though are much less useful than they once were, so once you can take a single hardmode boss, they lose basically all their value since hallowed replaces all of it.

As for slowing the corruption, the most recent hotfix changed it so that now only the first Plantera kill will slow down the spread of corrupt/hallow. Other bosses don't count for that any longer.

Can't help much about the magic weapon question. When I got into hardmode, I lucked out with an early tactical shotgun drop, which I used most of the time, and even still it's my most used weapon. I will say though if you are going magic weapon route, craft someMagic Cuffs. They are made from a bunch of very common items, and give you effectively infinite mana in combat.

Crystal Storm is super easy to get, it's just like souls of light, crystals and books I think? Yes better ore spawns deeper, but I'd say smash every altar you have easy access to, as they all seem to provide a ton more of the shit. I spawned and killed like 20 eyes of cthulu once in hardmode mostly just for the gold. Between his gold drops and the meteorite ore it was like ~80g, so totally worth it given how fast you can facerape him in hardmode gear. Armor wise I'd say make whatever you can, but try and find a rain storm on the surface, ice golems spawn in blizzard when it's raining and they 100% drop a piece of frozen armor which is basically equal to adamantine.

No idea how to deal with corruption really. I went and spammed like 300 of the powders at mine and it didn't even make a dent =\

Yeah I progressed a bit, mined a bunch of titanium so I got the forge but don't really have enough for more than helm or boots atm and it's hard to track down so I'll most likely skip it in favor of hallowed. I did complete a mythril set while I was looking for titanium though, so I'm not too far behind. I also got Golden Shower, which is the crimson equivalent of Crystal Storm, shit's definitely awesome, it paints mobs glowy yellow so you can fight in the dark more easily and it reduces their armor or whatever so you do more damage. I also got a frostfire flower or something, basically like the fire flower in hell but blue and much stronger. Crits for 150ish if I apply the gold debuff first, so I'm pretty much set for weapons until I can start the dungeon and shit. Gave the Devourer a try but he killed me, I probably should have looked him up a bit more first as my arena is the old one I used for the eye and it was way too small for the size of the boss, couldn't avoid much. Took him down to 30% or so without preparation so wasn't so bad.

Right now the issue is collecting the materials to summon, it sucks dicks. I have a bunch of lead bars so I'm ok with that but the vertebrae(crimson drop) doesn't drop for shit in hardmode since most mobs are replaced with hard mode mobs that don't seem to have it on their loot tables. Guess I'll have to go to another world. Need to farm the corruption chests instead of crimson anyway, so I get the mana ring shit so I can make the magic cuffs, as it doesn't spawn in crimson world, so I'll probably farm enough to summon a few bosses, then redo the arena better(taller) and fuck him up.

Start to strip mine the jungle, focus on getting the life fruit and your other goals will also happen.

so, is it best to kill a boss asap, or to quarantine the new corruption/hallow after killing wall?
