so, is it best to kill a boss asap, or to quarantine the new corruption/hallow after killing wall?
Well someone pointed out killing a boss does nothing anymore, only Planterra stops corruption spread, so I don't feel it's very necessary to rush a boss, however quarantining shit is pretty futile unless you have all your map revealed/use the map viewer, as breaking altars after the first one to spawn metals will also randomly convert some blocks to corruption/crimson/hallow, starting a new contamination point. You'd need to break all your altars, then quarantine every single area. I guess you could try quarantining your jungle and ice biome, maybe desert/ocean biomes too but other than that doesn't seem to be worth it, and even that takes forever compared to what you'd gain.

Anyway, went and farmed some shit, I made a new small world, farmed corruption mobs there, got a shadow orb and the mana ring so now I have the shackles(which are OP as fuck, put the mana flower thing back in a chest as I don't need it anymore), also killed Queen Bee there cause I thought it was a hard mode boss so I didn't bother killing it before, I did it so the voodoo guy would spawn, to buy some wings instead of farming them. After being done farming, I went back to my world, crafted a few regen potions(I have a bunch of ironskins from chests and shit I hadn't used) and kill the destroyer, 3times per night. He's so fucking easy now that I increased the ceiling of my arena and used some buffs, so got full hallowed armor+drax+melee helm(for defense for the next 2 bosses) and a decent bunch of money from the souls I didn't need. After that went and killed the twins and prime and farmed some souls of night/light to craft some shit, made a crystal storm but that shit's pretty useless, however also made a harp and that's really fucking good, other than the noise. Gonna go kill Planterra next I guess.

It's pretty impressive how much content has been added since I last played though. I mean I only played for a little bit during 1.0, so there was no hardmode even, it was like kill skeletron, clear dungeon, well that's it nothing else to do. Definitely looking forward to Terraria 2.

Havent played since 1.0 either a long time ago... How would jumping back into the game go? Do I have to read tons of wikis or can i jump in and get a few hours worth of fun with the new stuff right away?

Well there isn't that much new stuff right away, it's mostly a lot of content added after you progress a bit. Like early on it's still mine random shit, get ores, craft better pickaxe, get better ore, get better pickaxe. There is new content like the Crimson area instead of the Corruption but that's just an alternative, Queen Bee is a new boss but you'd most likely need to start doing the normal bosses before you go there, there's new biomes(ice and pyramids) too I guess if you wanna visit stuff and they offer alternatives to strong items(mostly cloud in a bottle alternatives and ice biome can also give you hermes boots alternative). Still I hadn't played in so long it didn't bother me much, and once you start hitting the new stuff there's quite a lot to do, plus once you get to the point where you'd be done in 1.0, you're barely halfway done now, you kill the Wall of Flesh, unlock hard mode which adds new biomes, new bosses, new mobs and a fuckton of new items and progression.

Basically, it's very much like an expansion. You'd still have to play through the normal game but there were some stuff added to the core game too that makes it slightly different than before, and then there's a fuckton more content than there used to be.

I guess my question was more along the lines of: Do i have to read up on a lot of wikis to unlock stuff, or is it pretty straightforward inside the game where i can mostly figure things out? Dont have much time for gaming these days and dont think i could afford the time having to research all those things :\

So, I was lucky enough to get a Corrupt Key to drop and then died-my way to the Corruption Chest and looted thismonster. It turned all of the hard mode 'mechanical' bosses into jokes (Just fly around/dodge, while holding down the shoot button). Next up is to try it out on Pantera/Golem.

Some stuff is fairly straightforward but you kinda need to know what you're supposed to do next which isn't very obvious unless you follow a quick guide. Basically there's "tiers" of gear and you need to get each tier to go to the next(sometimes can skip tiers though), with some optional stuff that give nice utility items. There's also a ton of rare drops and shit so the wiki is definitely great. Could probably have fun just logging in every now and then since there's a lot of stuff to do and everything gives you a slight progression toward the "end" of the game but if you don't play much then you shouldn't expect to reach that anytime soon, as there is a ton of things to do and a lot of them are time consuming.

So, Hatorade hooked it up and gave me some end-game shit to play with. I've got full Chlorophyl armor, chloro broadsword and saber, flight/slow fall wings, 7sec lava immunity charm, the obsidian charm thing, and a few other toys. I'm still in normal mode and have only killed the Eye of Cthulhu. I was mostly focused on messing around: built my house up to hold most of the NPC's (when I get them), built a Hellevator, and found all the different Biomes on my Medium world.

Can anyone provide a list of everything I should do in Normal mode prior to killing Wall of Flesh and unlocking Hard?

Hatorade just robbed you of feeling any progress with your gear for the next 3-4 hours of gameplay at least...

Trinkets from Dungeon, floating islands and Jungle, kill Queen Bee, get shadow key and build houses for all the NPCs, then go for Wall of Flesh

Eh, I'm still having a lot of fun. The exploration/building aspect is enjoyment in itself for me.

Thanks for the tips!

I bought Terraria and barely played it around 1.0, I just recently came back. This game is an absolute blast and is relatively easy to just jump in and figure things out yourself. I like that you can login for 30 mins and feel like you accomplished something.

Game finished, just killed Golem. Planterra was a bitch until I figured I should stop trying the fancy strats(like long corridor with 2 teleports and teleporting back and forth) and just make a long floating platform outside and run back and forth, easiest setup to kill it as it doesn't move much that way so it's easy to avoid shit. Then farmed dungeon for a while to get Spectre armor. While doing so I got Wisp in a bottle(right after I went to the trouble of farming souls of light to summon the twins to get the souls of sight needed to make a fairy bottle
frown.png
) basically on the first 10ish mob, I got a sniper rifle on the first sniper mob, I found a jungle and crimson key while "leveling" so I got these 2 weapons, but pretty much none of that shit was any useful to me.

Luckily near the end of the farm I finally got lucky and got Magnet Sphere and Inferno Spear or whatever, both of those are OP as fuck. Combined with Spectre Armor lifesteal and the Nimbus Cloud staff, I can basically facetank anything. I more or less facetanked the golem that way, double cloud on top of him, Golden Shower every now and then for the debuff, Magnet Sphere every 3-4secs and Inferno spam rest of the time, I heal so much it's ridiculous, didn't even have the thing to extend invuln equipped. Basically Spectre armor is gg, once you have it everything is easy as shit.

It did take a while to farm though, as with Chloro, dungeon is still a very dangerous place, especially those fucking casters and the paladins. I died twice in there, and since I'm on mediumcore, that means all my gear drops when I die. I forgot to bring a spare set from my main house and was bound to the entrance of the dungeon, so had to get back to my corpse naked, then instantly open inventory and find my mirror to get the fuck out, spent probably as much time trying to get back my corpses in these cases than actually farming, but was fun.

Really great game nowadays, I'm glad I bought it back then, while I did get my money worth then, kinda, with this "expansion" patch I got even more out of it.

It's a great weapon for sure, but I feel like it isn't as good as other late game options. It's problem is that it's just a single hitting, non-piercing weapon, and it's speed isn't as high as other weapons either. You can hit something with the Terra Blade for like ~200 damage, or shoot a blast with the Tactical Shotgun for ~100 x6 if all the bullets connect (which is common if using homing bullets).

I still made, and use my Terra Blade for random trash mob killing just because it doesn't use ammo. For any hard or boss fight though, I use other options.

Agreed. Just put together the Spectre Armor + big hitting magic weapon + magic cuffs combo over lunch. Steamroll everything with no remorse.

Just completely crushed all 3 mechanical bosses in one night with the above mentioned setup. 0 battle ground prep, 0 hp/mp potions used, 0 buffs. Never went below half health, and only got to half from being lazy and reckless. Damn that is a sweet, sweet setup.

Well you're not supposed to have Spectre when you do the mechanical bosses so that's kinda expected, it's like how they do 1 dmg with almost every attack if you have Turtle armor or how you can kill them in under 30secs with shroomite+sniper spam(can do the destroyer in less than that with piercing weapons though).

I'm replaying the game as a melee atm. Only thing I "twinked" was taking some seeds from my farm so I could plant shit easier but tbh not really needed, don't use that many buff pots anyway. It was decently challenging on some bosses but not that much. Normal mode stuff is more or less a joke, started hardmode and my world had corruption and all 3 corruption areas were next to each other, and corruption seems to spawn with like a long corridor with a ton of altars. While on my mage I must have broken about 10-12 altars total(which was all that was on the map), I broke like 30with my melee and there's a few left. Result is I spent a whooping 2mins with a cobalt pickaxe before I had enough orichalcum to make the pickaxe+forge then spent less than an hour to get full adamantite armor+spear(+forge obviously) and one shot the snake boss without much trouble. The combination of stupid amount of altars and randoming the ores that are easy to spot on the map(cobalt is light blue, orichalcum is pink, adamantite is dark red, all very easy to tell apart from other shit unlike titanium which is fucking grey) made it so I didn't bother crafting any of the intermediate set, I just went from molten to adamantite cause there was no reason to make cobalt or orichalcum when I could see enough adamantite on the map(well was missing some so that's where the rest of the time went). And I hadn't even explored much, I found most of it along my hellevator or on the ceilling of my hell bridge I built to fight the wall of flesh.

Now I'm hesitating to take the 3 broken hero swords I got from afking in my house during solar eclipses to make a tera blade instantly. I'm not sure it's gonna be more OP than the shroom spear I bought for 30 fucking golds anyway, shit is way broken too. I'm at least keeping away from my vampire knives as they break the game instantly.

Thought melee would be more challenging but it was just more tedious with not being able to hit mobs at times or having to jump around, and the fucking mouse spamming to attack because only the endgame weapons have fucking autofire.

Well, true. However, Golem got burned down 5 times in a row right after, and you ARE supposed to have top end armor for that fight.

With a good magic weapon, like Shadowbeam or Inferno Fork, Spectre + Magic Cuffs is insanely good.

Yeah I said that when I finished the game with my mage, I had Nimbus(spawns 2 static clouds that last for like 1minute and do 30-40dmg every .5secs each in one very small area), Magnet Sphere(slow moving sphere that fires like 3-4times a second at stuff around it), Inferno Fork(high damage nuke that does damage multiple times in one spot) and Golden Shower for the -20def debuff. I had no problem facetanking golem either, Spectre is OP. Lifesteal is OP in general, same story with Vampiric Knives. Even without spectre lifesteal though with those spells you can kill bosses in a matter of seconds so you're fine, hell if you use tank armor you don't even take that much damage and since mana pots don't have a cd you don't lose all that much(some damage but damage is way over the top already).

Finished the game on my melee, funny enough my world didn't have a golem altar, think it bugged out as like 1/4 of the temple had nothing(took my mage and digged into it to make sure). With 85armor, standing in honey water near a campfire and with a single heart statue I could just stand there and whack at planterra until it died, killed it a few times to get the flower pow, which is pretty fucking awful but eh.

It's a bit sad that both Eye and Skeletron and their hard mode versions are both extremely melee unfriendly since they fly away from you unless they're charging, makes the fight take forever unless you use ranged weapons. And that's the thing that kinda sucks about the game, even though they're melee, there's a ton of ranged weapons. There's obviously boomerangs but these tend to be fairly crappy, but like there's many swords with projectiles(ice and frozen blade, true excalibur/night's edge/tetra, starfury early game), then you have fairly long range melee weapons like spears and flails which I think is fine but once you get to endgame, you have completely retarded shit like Vampiric Knives(fucking throwing knives, aoe, lifesteal, but they're melee somehow) and the worst, the fucking Corruption key weapon, I found one while I was farming souls so I went to check it out, I had assumed it was a spear, nope, it's a fucking SPELL, but somehow melee. It throws a fast moving projectiles that then summons seeking insects shit. How is that a fucking melee weapon. Considering that it's OP as fuck since it's basically a full ranged weapon but benefitting from the bonus on melee armor(which has like 3times as much armor as caster weapon).

Anyway balance isn't good in endgame, and you can break the game at various parts depending on luck(like how I had those altars giving me full adamantite super fast, or if you get a key right away randomly and go open the chest to get an endgame weapon way before you should). But it's a cool game nonetheless.

Oh also I found a Rod of Discord while farming souls of light. Funniest weapon in the game. It basically teleports you where you click. Can go across the map(any direction, even down or up) in seconds, it's awesome to navigate caves and shit and great for farming souls in the lava depth since you go pickup the souls of mobs dying to laav quickly.
