How soon mates do you think either Sony or Microsoft will show there hand first and officially announce a launch date?

I am asking cause in week it will be august and I would assume a launch of Mid Nov or 1st week in Dec there massive marketing machines would want at least 2 month window ahead.

Cheers.
Chances are we find out at either Gamescon or TGS.

Though i would be shocked if it was anything other than late november.

There have been rumors of sony going for a october release but i'd say november sometime close to black friday is a safer bet.

Pretty much this.

Sometime after thanksgiveing.

I fully expect whoever blinks 1st Sony or Microsoft to announce , then the other side then announces like 1 day before for them to come out.
Then the question will be is will the other side stand ground or then move 1 day ahead of them again.

Cheers.

Hopefully it remains nothing, rather then something like this:http://gyazo.com/18c8dad04e2cbf52dd57b646129a48c5
this is the stupidest thing I've read in a while, but just in case someone actually believes a 4chan troller

1) sony does not buy memory from fucking newegg, ps4 is assembled in china and japan and all the components are sourced directly from manufacturers not fucking end-user resellers like newegg or amazon

2) there is no such thing as gddr3.5, and you cannot simply drop gddr3 into a gddr5 slot.

3) there is absolutely no shortage of gddr5 or ddr3, market exchange ishttp://www.dramexchange.com/and gddr5 prices have been falling reliably for months and years now. You can buy a billion dollars worth of gddr5 if you want and get it within a week.

"Calm down! It's just some info about how memory works and nothing more. Nothing serious! "

The sky is totally falling. Also the shit meSteveo linked is an ultra-retarded beyond belief joke.

I have to say, I have found the pre-release to this generation of consoles to be hilarious. People seem to have attached to one console or the other very quickly and there is more animus than there has been in the past between the two groups. Add to that thecrazyrumors that spread like wildfire, and it's been a good time so far. Sony getting RAM from Newegg.... el oh el.

Really Sony is buying bulk from Newegg and not the direct manufacturer? That seems retarded. Direct from manufacturer would allow possibly increases in production by forecasting and the like. I don't believe it.
No offense to the so called source.

But fuck who is to say that so called source saying that shit, is not some Microsoft marketing dis information genius trying to combat all the bad press they got and world of mouth.

So they make up Major lie to spread across all social media sites to try to hurt sony.

Article is up, just details RAM availability, 4.5gb available for gaming 3.5gb for the OS, up to 1gb may be taken from the OS if it is available but isn't trivial and is expected to be something first parties utilize initially.

Interesting. If this is true, I think I might pick up a new graphics card for my PC instead of a PS4. I was a bit worried that a 3gb card wouldn't be enough to properly handle third party games, but this changes things on that front. A GTX 760 should be good for the next few years, I think.

Why the hell are these consoles needing so much RAM for their OS? Just a quick glance at my shitty Win XP desktop here at work that has all sorts of shitty, bloated work-related applications running on it, and it's only using about 1.5GB of my available RAM. 3+GB seems excessive for a console OS.

I can only assume it's to help future proof the console and the OS. Sony probably doesn't want RAM limitations to limit their OS development in the future.

Dear internet (here and elsewhere): Stop being stupid.

In both MS and Sony's case, it's not reservedforthe OS, it's reservedbythe OS.

The only way to assume a game will run correctly along with one or more of the the non-game things modern consoles do (Twitch streaming / Kinect camera / Smart Glass / Windows RT apps / Fantasy Football updates / Playstation Eye camera / etc. etc. etc.) is to figure out how much memoryallof those non-game things could take (including the actual OS) and block that from the game side. (No one wants to boot up Uncharted 5 and see a screen saying: This game takes 6.2 GB of free memory. You need to free 0.85 GB by closing one or more of the following applications...)

tl;dr - It's not reserved for the OS, it's reserved by the OS, for all the non-game things consoles do now.
