My wife doesn't mind watching me play console games but she doesn't like it when I play PC games because it's not a group family activity. She isn't really interested in playing herself just watching me play and commenting. So when we don't feell like going outside or taking the kids somewhere that's.when I need a console.

Might not initially mean much for the XBOne, but you have to think that if Microsoft ends up rolling out a great Steam-like service on PC, that there would end up being something real similar on XBOne
You mean like GFWL or the Win8 Games Store? Microsoft is just repeating their pattern of waking up and realizing people play PC games, wanting to get a piece of that pie, and then losing interest when they don't immediately corner the market. The pendulum is now swinging back to the point where theymake empty platitudesabout caring about PC gamers before throwing their arms up in confusion when people don't instantly embrace all the hoops they have created. And this comes after almost no games released with GFWL as their primary DRM this year and several publishers abandoning it in favor of Steam (Ultra Street Fighter IV, Arkham Origins, etc. - not to mention someolder GFWL titleslook like they might also be making the switch).

I'm the same way, I start taking on the personality of the character I'm playing plus honestly most of the shit I do in games is pretty stupid/fucked up like dildo fighting in Saints Row or the constant shit talking in FPS. I hate wearing headphones too so some 12 year old retard yelling cunt cunt cunt over and over isn't something I want my kids to share in.

A lot of great shit is happening with displays over the next few years too, not just 4K displays but also people have been doing some cool stabilization stuff with 120hz displays (locked to 120 fps) that is amazing; it has to do with using some of the 3d stuff to do a single backlight ping per frame in such a way to remove blur to the eye. I don't really understand it but the examples I saw were fucking amazing.

a great PC with a really nice 120hz 27-30" monitor and a 55-80" attached LED (a nice recliner 10 feet away) is gamer heaven, kbd/mouse for most stuff on the 120hz but occasionally the LED/xbox controller is used when you just wanna kick back. Newer games let you set which monitor to go fullscreen on, so its pretty cool playing Battlefield 3 off a PC on a tv, although you do way, way shittier than playing with k/m.

What I'm really going to be interested in is seeing how long until people start releasing xbone or ps4 emulators for PC, and how well they work. I just downloaded a Vita (?) emulator that had a new metal gear solid game, haven't tried it yet but it looks cool.

Emulators, unless there's a quantum leap in their quality since the last time I bothered (and it wasn't that long ago, like 2-3 years), take YEARS to have a PC present something decently. Last I checked even Game Boy Advance emulators have serious lag issues even on an i7 with most ROMs.

You had a bad experience with a GBA emulator? I don't even know what to say, really. I have a pretty mediocre machine and had no problem with even the PS1 emulator I was using.

With FFTA-2, I tried every one on the market with a Phenom II overclocked to 4.5GHz and my i7 before I overclocked - and yea, both would have pretty horrendous framerate drops at times. (And with a 7970 overclocked in both - not that I think GBA emulators touch the video card)

And PS1 emulation would be quite a few steps removed from "current" anyhow - I've had plenty of luck running emulators for things that are 6-10 years old and older - that's a world of different from modern stuff. (I'd not be shocked if PS3 and 360 were becoming decent emulator wise recently since they've got 5 years or so on them - Y1 emulation is almost definitely going to suck unless the switch to x86 makes emulation drastically easier [not impossible it would, but I'm not holding my breath either - I'd bet against it, since we know PS4 for example has extra DX operations not in the normal DX kernel])

More like system designed by jealous wives and girlfriends, to get men to stop playing video games and spend more "quality time" together.

TRUTHFACT 1+

No live stream for real reasons. Xbone architecture is still not fully completed. The latest version of the SDK a couple of weeks ago dropped performance by 15-20% across the board. Now before you get mad at MS, this happens ALL THE TIME in console development and it will eventually be fixed, but no chance for an early October release or...

TRUTHFACT 2+

... certainly not for all 21 countries. "Localization" is absolute one hundred percent BS. Period. TRUTHFACT. An excuse nobody with common sense would consider. Look at the countries dropped. Cross reference against languages spoken, official and otherwise in said countries. I said there were yield issues two months ago and the chicks have come home to roost. Knock offs for launch titles, and SmartGlass, etc. instead of the 180's "one coherent vision". Paying the price now.

TRUTHFACT 3+

Late October launch for the PS4. Sony's SDK is ready, you can basically master it to a final release right now. Today.

TRUTHFACT +4

If you thought people were mad about Bayonetta's sequel going to Wii U, you'll be somewhat unhappy about what Microsoft is moneyhatting with Platinum. Other Japanese devs are in play too, but Kamiyatown is the only one I'm solid on. Game is NOT for North America or Europe, by the way, which makes no sense but whatever.

TRUTHFACT $5

BigPark nuked their game. It was a MOBA, but it's dead dead dead now. A whole studio focusing on TV services! All their best talent went to Black Tust or left MS entirely. Rare's still Kinect focused, no matter what else you've heard.

TRUTHFACT 6

New indie publishing policy's not set yet. Will come postlaunch.

TRUTHFACT #7: Early September Surprise

Apologies in advance. Everything I saw over the last 24 months was that there's no chance of a Kinect-less SKU. It was a solid concrete decision, firm as a beach volleyball buttocks, no matter what other changes have been going on around here.

And... weeeelllll, about that.

There's whispers of a Kinect-optional (as in, not in the box) SKU early next year. March or April. Enough smoke now that I didn't want to wait until September to say it. Launch number fallout will play its part.

A storm is coming.

Competing comments from reddit from a dev:

Personally, I don't think this person works at Microsoft based on things he has said so far, I feel like most of the time he is over-simplifying things. I'm going to give my take on what he's "revealed" this time.

1)This entire point is vague. Not sure what he is referring to when he says our architecture isn't ready. If he is saying our architectural design isn't finalized, that is completely wrong. I'm going to assume he means certain features aren't fully ready to be shown, which is true. That being said, I don't see how this has anything to do with Microsoft not streaming Gamescom. Perhaps he meant because some of our features are not yet ready, the overall experience will be so terrible, streaming the conference would show how badly our console runs. Well, we will have 100+ playable consoles at Gamescom. Clearly not the case. The official word has always been Xbox One will launch in November.
To say that our latest July/August DurangoXDK (I assume this is what he meant by SDK) dropped performance by 15-20% across the board, this would mean I as well as a lot of people seriously screwed up somewhere, and I should be freaking out right now. Last time I checked the perf tests, they are on an upwards trend.

2)There are no yield issues I have heard of from my leads, their leads, or our executives. What was told company wide is we will sell 100% of our production inventory on launch based on pre-order numbers. Every console we make until launch will need to go out the door. There is the possibility of our executives simply not revealing the yield issues to us because they don't want to hurt morale. I doubt this is the case.

Points 3, 4, and 5 I have no idea.

6)This isn't news. Marc Whitten has publicly said that the every console will be a dev kit functionality will not be ready at launch and added at a later date. More info will be shown at Gamescom.

7)Not news again, the same day Marc Whitten revealed the Kinect does not have to be plugged in, we confirmed there will not be a Kinect-less Xbox One at launch.
On the possibility of this happening March/April 2014, I have no idea. But to say the Xbox One's launch numbers will be a fallout is unfounded.

translating from doubleplusgoodthink marketing spin...

He didn't actually deny the point about the SDK performance drop, only that if it was true, that it'd probably be fixed soon, and someone likely just screwed up, and the overall trend is upward, it's simply one bad build.

More double talk than a politician in his "response" for sure. It's possible he's wording things terribly, but with the negative feelings towards the product already, his words will always be taken negatively by most. And read in the worst light, he's not really disproving anything. (Plus he doesn't sound too involved since he's talking like he's far hands off from the XDK numbers - likely only seeing monthly reports or something is how I'd take it)
