No, not really unless something absolutely tanks. I almost always know exactly what I'm going to buy long before it's out and generally know more or less what I'll be getting into. I go to GT a lot, because they have lots and lots of videos of things, but I don't put much stock in their reviews, because as I said above I generally have a good idea of things before hand.

Plus, with how dumb review embargoes are now, I usually have the game before any reviews are even out.

Unfortunately with Knack there was more general media and impressions embargoes than usual due to launch nonsense. I will likely send it back or bullshit Walmart into taking it somehow.

Gotta do what we can with information we have. The metacritic scores from professional reviews strongly correlates to the quality of the game, so it's not useless information.

This too. I love always seeing the disparity between the paid off review sites whose way of revenue depends the same people they are reviewing, and the user reviews. Always trust user reviews. And when reading amazon reviews, make sure to look for the tag where they are outed as received the product for free.

Honestly if someone is that worried about picking a bad game they should always just wait and read the threads here or watch a twitch video of it. Paid game reviewers are fucking whored out and shouldn't be trusted.
