I think RPGs, flight sims and racing games are all hugely impacted by using a rift. Especially since immersion is the key force in those games. For online FPS I'd say competition is the key component to them, and a rift is only desirable if it helps you compete (Which may be true with the high fov, refresh rate, resolution and ability to see distant objects).
Time for this

They should also bring back this:

If they can spatially match the image with the controller and track the arms, that would be pretty immersive.

Oh the flight sim people have some very impressive setups ready for Star Citizen/Elite

angerous, Eve:Valkyrie etc. I know almost all racing games show the avatar moving the wheel, and I remember people talking about how weird to see in the Rift.

It looks legit to me, a bunch of journalists are doing that demo so if it was faked people would know.

I don't get it. It looks like current movement controller with a screen attached to your head instead of out in front of you. I guess the only cool part is your head movement tied to the camera movement.

I dunno I never like VR setups tried in the past. Especially with headsets like that on your face for extended period of times. I can't imagine something like that with a FPS game, given how much I snap my camera around to check constantly around you and having my head do that? Yeah no thanks.

I could maybe see that in a driving sim or flight games. Maybe even driving a mech or something like that. But in any game where my camera is constantly on the move, yeah no.

Not what I meant. Not like a movie just playing out, but like I said, more of a QTE. He moves orby 1 forward, it automatically does action B. He just moved it he didn't move it in a special way it's just like point and click interaction.

Basically what makes that (besides the awesome graphics) seem like anything but the Wii with nerdgoggles?

You could be right. There's always an element of fudging with games like this where there's loose control. It's similar to auto-aim with guns.

However I think it's legit, you can see the sword shaking like someone is holding a controller and there's no real reason to fake it that much.

Should rephrase my statement a bit, any game that doesn't make use of first person this tech becomes useless. With my current work/time for gaming none fits this category. (D3 and Hearthstone)

Yeah I agree that isometric games wouldn't be good in a rift. I think third person games would be great though.

Even completely removing the gaming aspect, these things are like a personal 3D Imax screen. Toss in some high-end headphones and it's going to be awesome for non-gaming stuff as well.

Isometric would still be cool imho. Someone mentioned they played one on the Morpheus ,and it felt like a moving board game you could lean into much like in real life.
Imagine Hearthstone were it put you in the arena with a board in front of you ,and instead of cards just being cards they could do all the cool magical effects that could never happen in real life. The tournament stuff would be cool as well.

I also believe all games benefit from VR not just FPS's. Think of it this way when we play an action game which is really just an FPS that is zoomed out so you can see your Avatar in 3rd person, instead of just looking at a flat screen you would be in that world in almost a ghost mode were the character you are controlling is in front of you.

There is so many cool things you can do with VR when you realize we no longer have to look through a window, and can now go outside.

Ender's Game.

Not sure how much I'd be into porn applications though if I can only hold 2 vibrating sticks to reflect my actions.

Interesting thing that showed up in my Facebook feed - sounds something along the lines of Heroes meets Watchmen meets... something police drama-ish, I guess?
