As a separate point. I see several people describing sympathy for Homelander. While I totally agree that they did a great job of making it so no one is black or white, and even the psycho villains are complex 3 dimensional characters, I dont actually feel any sympathy for Homelander. I get it, its a really good take on "what if superman was raised in a lab instead of my Ma Kent?", they did a great job. he's just still too hateable. he's Joffrey, you never really feel sorry for him even if you kind of understand how he got to be the way he is.

But the Deep, there is a dude I feel sympathy for. its surprising how they were able to (are we still doing spoilers?)
have him commit assault/rape in Ep 1 then by Ep 7 we're actually feeling bad for him.

Overall just an incredibly effective show, by the end I care about pretty much every character.

The bitch running Vought was inspired casting. As perfect for that role as RDJ for Iron Man. Born to play it. I've hated her in every other thing I've seen her in. She never loses that smug grin. Ever. But in this role, it was a perfect fit.

Having never read the comic I really liked the foil against Homelander with Annie. Annie learns she wasn't, "Chosen by God" as the supes are led to believe about the origin of their powers. She was merely a decision made by her mother to make her life better. Which while it did give her powers and fame and shit also caused her father to leave. The knowledge that she wasn't chosen by god at all but by a corporation like Vought from literally day one of her life causes her immense amount of personal strife and struggle. Meanwhile Homelander has always known this. He has always had to pretend he had a life he didn't. A life crafted from the bottom up by a corporate marketing department. Nothing about him is real, and whenever he did make mistakes. Vought covered for him or rewarded him for it anyway. The dude never even had to learn right from wrong in any way. So shocking he's a nutter.

The Deep is also an amazing character. Sure he abused his celebrity status to fuck some girls and shit like any rockstar does. Then he realizes that he was always a C-List hero just like The Mesmer. The only difference is that his Hero of the Seas angle played well with Vought so he gets a spot on The Seven.

Since Compound V is super secret and all. I get that A-Train knew it enhanced his powers like supe steroids. But was he aware that Compound V is the origin of their powers? This is supposed to be a revelation but even A-Train's brother knew about the shit. Along with dumb bitches like Popclaw. How secret was it exactly? Before Butcher gave it to the CIA woman and before Homelander gave it to those Navy SEALS after he, found it in the drug lab.

Enjoyed this series. This was as good as the previews made it out to be. That being said, I will skip watching the previews for season 2 and just watch Season 2. The previews showed to much of the special effects. There were more but not that much more. I want to enjoy the moment as it happens and not feel like I saw the best effects already.

A solid 9/10

I need some of this V juice. I'd wind up with a dumb power like being able to make microwave ovens operate faster or something. I want laser eyes, damn it.

Well done show. A+.

Really enjoying this. Some of the political stuff though seems really dated. Like the whole evangelical theme with pray the gay away stuff...Like no mega corporation would want their brand associated with that today. Even ones that donate to Christian fundi groups tend to try and minimize it. But then they mixed in a lot of modern political buzz words. It felt like the story was a weird mix of 90's culture/politics with 2019, and at times it became a bit jarring because I kept thinking "dude, no way would Homelander be this popular if he was literally on propaganda to expel impure thoughts, he'd be seen as a cunt by everyone."

Other than that, really enjoyed it. I think the entire take on what corporate America would do to Super Heroes was hysterical and horrifying all at once.

The evangelical stuff works when you view it within context of a setting where superheroes walk the earth and their powers are attributed to being God's will. The decline of Christianity in the US would have likely not happened with this sort of supporting element. Vought likely planned it from the beginning as a way to give their heroes a large supportive base to keep the government from cracking down on supes to avoid pissing off a strong religious base, because the show (dunno about comics) never addresses why they're permitted to operate, yet shows how the feds/politicians are against it, but not acting on it, suggesting that their hands are forced without a compelling way to change the public's minds about them.

Funny, I disliked that scene exactly because of that argument. Only bad part of an otherwise awesome episode.

Because Homelander was an idiot and was wrong. When a plane lands its entire weight is resting on the landing gear. Hitting the runway at several hundred miles an hour, weighing fuck knows how much, and somehow the landing gear doesnt punch straight through the plane and shoot off into space, or whatever retarded bullshit Homelander spouted.

I wanted Mave to say "No you idiot. I didnt say fly at it like a bullet. I said fly underneath it, matching speeds, then slowly fly upwards while pushing on the plane." Catching a falling plane as its about to hit the ground? Probably not possible. Adding a tiny bit of lift and stability to a plane thats still gliding through the air, easing it down to a water landing? I see no reasonable argument against it. And Homelander certainly didnt present one.

Maybe they wanted to emphasize hes a psycho. Maybe they wanted to emphasize he's not super-smart, just super strong. Maybe it was a misguided easter egg for fans of the wrong side of internet nerd debates. I dunno.

Awesome show, this is a nitpick about an old nerd debate not the show.

The landing gear argument is a little bizarre since we're talking about several rows of wheels each with multiple points of contact. The plane also isn't flying straight down when it lands.

The idea of him flying under it and using his whole body to nudge it upward for a softer landing might work, though, but a lot of factors might also make that impractical.

Fantastic show, binged it all weekend. Can hardly wait for season 2.

Can't believe Elizabeth Shue is 56 years old and still very much bangable.

You make a fair point that my landing gear example oversimplifies it. What I was going for is this. There are a few (3?) landing gears on large jets. The initial landing often involves only the front gears, which is what I had in mind. For that moment, the weight of the plane is resting on the front gear. I don't see this as terribly different from the whole plane resting on Homelanders (or Superman's) hand, as long as the hand is placed on a reasonable part of the plane.

What Homelander said was something retarded like "if I fly fast enough to affect it I'll punch through it like a bullet", which is what I was bitching about. The situation would be more like the plane resting on a landing gear than a bullet striking the plane.

In any case, I started rewatching the whole series last night, something I havent dont since early seasons of GoT. Its that good. And there is tons more to catch on a rewatch.

Cant wait for the next season, too bad it's going to be a long wait. I binged it over the weekend as well and will probably rewatch it sometime this week.

The front wheels are the last wheels to touch the ground on all commercial jets. The landing gear of jets are a great engineering feat, and there are no support structures for a single point of contact on the jets center of gravity. That being said, if it autoleveled, an Airbus A330 has a lift to drag ratio of 15:1, which means, when glideing, under no power, it will travel 15 miles for every 1 mile in lost altitude. So all Homelander would need to do is keep it level (not support the whole plane) until it crashed into the ocean, to give them a chance to live.

But the force needed by Homelander to balance the force generated by the falling plane would be concentrated in a single spot when the plane is designed for the force to be spread out over multiple points with precise lever lengths. Seemed like a reasonable assumption on his part.

To put an end to the Homelander plane theorycrafting, he could have at least tried. Rip open the landing gear hatch and grab onto something and slow the descent for a soft water landing. I mean, it's not like things could have gone any *worse* by trying. Dude is just a lazy sociopath -- even him lazering the terrorist in the cockpit was lazy and dumb.

The plan was for 100% savior rate. As soon as the pilot died and blatant laser damage in cockpit they were boned.
