yeah, i mean it's probably just some goofy conspiracy theory that the show or comics didn't even purposely add, but i definitely looked at it from the perspective of a sleazy business. their income comes from movies and toys and stuff, so that's the company's focus. except that doesn't poll well, so they do "charity" work in stopping crime. they set up crime scenes (and don't even tell the supes that it's fake) so the supes can be heroes, and then use that as advertising for the movies and toys and stuff
no, i think it was just a way to show that starlight is now "in the big leagues", she'd use to just case her hood, now shes got techs and nerds feeding her info and shit. You see this when the Deep is shipped off to shitsville and the first thing he asks is, wheres my crime itinerary? and the supervisor is like, "this place is shit, but theres no crime here", kind of

ultimately i agree with you. obviously this was the seven's version of oracle, but there was just enough stank on the whole thing to make it come across like the crimes MIGHT be predetermined. and deep in sandusky doesn't get an itinerary because no one cares about the deep anymore. his misconduct is bad enough to where even if he does fight crime, he's not selling any toys and no movie deals, so it's a lost cause. if they keep him in new york, they have to give him crimes to solve but it's wasted revenue, so they send him to a place with an extremely low crime rate. that way when he doesn't GET an itinerary, it's not out of the blue.

but again, at face value i think it was just Oracle in corporate form. i just didn't know if the comics had that same vibe or if it was a storyline there.

why would she inject her own kid w/ compound V when her job is to overseer a human nuclear bomb with a whole list of emotional difficulties.

They explained that they started putting them with loving parents BECAUSE of him and the fact that he turned into an asshole without them. That's why all the others had a family. Why wouldn't she want another super kid that she could control? The fact that all this shit is still a mystery is a great hook into season 2.

The best scene by far is the dolphin rescue mission one. Gf and me had to laugh so fucking hard. Felt really bad for the deep though when the truck finished the job.

Fucking slow motion flying dolphin.

Yeah, that and the baby lazer scene are the two best. Best line though is when Butcher asks Hugie what he thinks he looks like when told he doesn't look like FBI, and he responds "you look like some guy from the porn version of the Matrix".

anyone curious about book vs tv series, i'll just post the obvious stuff
  • a train and the deep swap races, i guess the show wants to hit home the deep is a loser aquaman and blackman fast, right? also comic the deep looks more like bioshock than aquaman.
  • translucent is a new character entirely, he replaces (for now?) martian man hunter, i'm guessing it's a lot easier on the budget to have an invisible man vs. a green superman
  • the book focus on butcher, huey and terror the dog, the show only shows a dog cage, so no dog here, again probably easier on the budget not messing with a dog. Shame tho, dog was cool, he trained it to fuck on command, "terror fuck it!"
  • the female was always part of the OG team, but here it makes sense b/c in the show the OG team is just a bunch of ppl, while the female is a supe, in the comics everyone has taken compound V (even the fucking dog).
  • that is except for MM, in the comics his origins are... well very sketchy, also can't spoil his origins, it might play out
  • in tv the boys is mostly rag tag, in the comics they're an actual CIA unit that butcher is granted his own team.
  • in the comics its not the deep giving it to starlight, homeland/black noir and a train give her a bukake

1. Good change overall. The deep dive suit with helmet didn't add much to the character in the comics. Would have been especially awkward in a TV show since IIRC he could never take the helmet off.

2. Didn't really matter much, since he just existed to give Hughie someone to kill. Replacing the hamster scene with a C4 suppository sucks though.

3. Terror was definitely missed, but I agree it was probably budget related.

4. Probably my biggest complaint about the show was not having Butcher, Hughie, and Frenchie jacked on Compound V. That would have been much more interesting than the way they handled the V stuff with Popclaw and A-Train.

5. I believe MM was just as much a supe as The Female? He just needed a.... different kind of supplement, not V.

6. I can see why they left that out, since it would have required even more characters on the CIA side of things.

7. Comic Starlight was originally just a running joke showing the depths of depravity she'd sink to in order to be a member of the Seven. Ennis changed his mind and had her and Hughie meet in the park, so I wasn't surprised when they toned it down. Would have been pretty out of character for TV Homelander anyway. I did think they should have kept the Maeve (protecting Starlight) scene in though.

The single biggest change imo is Black Noir. Based on his fight with the Female and the very end of the season finale, he's clearly not the same as in the comic.

I assume they'll save compound V shenanigans for next season

The evangelical stuff works when you view it within context of a setting where superheroes walk the earth and their powers are attributed to being God's will. The decline of Christianity in the US would have likely not happened with this sort of supporting element. Vought likely planned it from the beginning as a way to give their heroes a large supportive base to keep the government from cracking down on supes to avoid pissing off a strong religious base, because the show (dunno about comics) never addresses why they're permitted to operate, yet shows how the feds/politicians are against it, but not acting on it, suggesting that their hands are forced without a compelling way to change the public's minds about them.

This makes sense, and it plays well with why the V drug would have been such a profound fraud, too. If they played the Supers off as kind of new age prophets/Jesus, then seeing they came from science would be devastating.

This show has the most subtle funny scenes sprinkled in between. Just watched episode 6 and the black guy is in the safe house talking to his gf on the phone. And he tells her, that she cant continue watching Downton Abbey without him, because then he will be behind. And then gives her the kisses.

Like you who comes with that stuff.

Black Noir was funny. He's like good at everything, is the only person Homelander had no issue with, and doesn't get into any drama.

That season 1 ending was a fucking tease. Season 2, I can kinda figure where it goes a bit.

Was Black Noir supposed to be a Deathstroke rip-off? He was the one person I couldn't think of the obvious comparison to.

Cant wait for the next season, too bad it's going to be a long wait. I binged it over the weekend as well and will probably rewatch it sometime this week.

The front wheels are the last wheels to touch the ground on all commercial jets. The landing gear of jets are a great engineering feat, and there are no support structures for a single point of contact on the jets center of gravity. That being said, if it autoleveled, an Airbus A330 has a lift to drag ratio of 15:1, which means, when glideing, under no power, it will travel 15 miles for every 1 mile in lost altitude. So all Homelander would need to do is keep it level (not support the whole plane) until it crashed into the ocean, to give them a chance to live.

This is a great answer and I hadnt thought enough about the fact that the center of gravity and the point of structural integrity need to coincide for a Homelander catch, but not for a landing.

Did anyone notice in one scene, I think episode 3 or 4, two of the main characters were talking and some insect buzzed them really loud right by their face? They didn't even react to it.

Yes, I figured it was an easter egg for something or future plot point.
