Well H. floriensis was officially discovered in 2003, but the way that the newspapers and online news sources report science it wouldn't surprise me one bit if the first news articles about them only appeared last year in the mainstream of media.

For some reason I seem to remember at the time that they only found one individual and it seemed silly that they would go from one individual to try and say it was a distinct species. It could have been just a dwarf mutation or something. However, looking at the wiki briefly just now, seems they found multiple remains.

Fucking gravediggers, where is the catholic church to burn them at the stake for desecration when you need em.

Could have been the result of a dwarfism recessive trait spreading through a tiny isolated population though.

Did a class on genetics back at the start of the summer. Its crazy how quickly in terms of generations a trait can move to fixation in a small isolated population. Really fast. Like within 5 or 10 generations sometimes, if the trait is dominant enough.

Small island, lower resources, smaller people have a much higher chance of making it to reproduction because of lower energy requirements and better ability to hide from predators leads to rapidly declining population size. Its nuts.

But yeah they did find one skeleton at first and that was the debate. Then they found more and the debate ended.

i don't get the problem though. there are more women in school compared to man. more women graduate, they perform better in school, and they are earning more degrees compared to men.

I can understand why a lot of people have a problem with it. I have a friend with daughters and they are constantly getting bombarded with pink shit, barbie dolls, tiaras and shit like that. Their grandmother actually comes to the house and actively discourages them from "acting smart" and talking about how guys don't find that attractive. Would drive me batty as a parent.

I think you are missing the context. "Acting smart" is reading a fucking book. That is the problem with the "princess" crap, people should be encouraging kids of any sex to read. Not discouraging it because its "acting smart".

I'm not sure what your point is? I don't care if 99% of women read books and 1% of men did. I would still want young girls to be encouraged to read, same with the boys.

Now since you find smart women unattractive, I guess you disagree.
